Remarks

It has been a great experience studying at Christ. I have had both positive and negative influences. But the most important thing I gained from Christ is a critical perspective of my own. Whatever its demerits, I thank the college and the faculty for helping me grow into the person that I am now. The lessons I have gained from the campus and the memories it has given me will stay with me forever. It is indeed one of the top educational institutions of India, if you know how to utilize all the great facilities it offers. What I found is, if you are really interested in becoming someone, you can always choose Christ University, It'll give you a push in the right path. It all depends on how you make use of the opportunities before you. Either way, Christ is open to you. It welcomes you into its beautiful campus without any presumptuous notions on where you're from or who you were. Hence, it is a great place for me to make lifelong friendships. like I have.

Entrance Preview

I never sat for any entrance exams to get into Christ. Yes there was an interview process and that was mostly it. They asked about my personal aspirations and dreams. Also they tests some of our general knowledge, but mostly it is the marks that get you in. If you have a good score in 12th you will be taken in. It is also important to prepare for the interview so that you don't get nervous when asked about what you want to do with life or why did you pick the particular course. Preparation helps you because if you don't panic, you will have a good chance of making it into Christ. I love science and mathematics. So when I heard about the triple main (Physics,Chemistry, Mathematics) course in Christ, I knew it was what I wanted to do.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

BSc Hons in Chemistry is the course I chose. It had an elaborate syllabus which covered all important portion in the field of chemistry though of course, not in depth. It had focus on both theoretical and practical learning. Lab hours were put in to see to it that our practical knowledge keeps up with the theory. Another thing is they conduct lots of seminars and workshops, inviting famous persons to conduct classes. It is an excellent opportunity for students to meet up with the pioneers in our fields and interacts them. This throws open a door into the scope and possibility of our course. I really appreciate the exposure we are given here. We have two compulsory elective subjects in the course. Both are to be completed before the fifth semester. There are lots of research activities going on in the campus, but details are inaccessible to undergraduates unless we are interning with a particular work.

Internships Opportunities

The college provides internships on a departmental level. Each departments has projects and research works going on to which the students are taken in to assist . They ensure that the interns get a deep and thorough practical knowledge of what they are doing. I haven't got the chance to do one of these yet but I have heard lots from my friends and seniors. Many consider this a restricted platform so they opt doing internships outside of campus. I have no details about the average pay or anything, having never done one myself. But I suppose it mustn't be so bad.

Placement Experience

4

Almost every student gets placed from this university. Bangalore is a centre for many MNCs which helps us to easily get on campus or off campus placements. The placement percentage is 90%. Its one of major advantage of taking admission in such a renowned university.

College Events

4.5

The college conducts so many programs every academic year. The exact number is not known because most of the events are conducted dept. wise and often they are simultaneous. We have Ethnic Day and the Bhasha Utsav that celebrates the cultural and linguistic differences of India. Then there are fests and events which include competitions. The students from all near-by colleges come to take part in them. One thing is, it is compulsory fro every student to participate in at least one of these programs. They keep note of such stuff to know who is keeping away. It pushes us to get out of our comfort zones and do thing we haven't tried our hands on till then.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Considering the beautiful campus and the standard of education and exposure provided there, Christ doesn't have a huge fee. Even when compared to other similar institutions of lesser facilities, this is low. I only paid a 30000 in the first year for the two semester. In the subsequent years, I only had to pay 15000 for each year. It is not just inexpensive, it is quite affordable. It came nowhere near my expectation because I had imagined a huge fee amount. There was no such thing.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college really looks into the scholarships and loans. From what I've heard students who are economically backward as given as much support as possible from the college. Not only does it have scholarships, it also helps students in securing scholarships from outside it. This a great thing because help from the institution is a major plus point when you are applying for big scholarships. They have this one gold medal for the topper from the course Bachelor of Commerce, Law and Business Administration. College also helps students in pursuing a post graduation or higher course, which they couldn't have otherwise afforded. But most of these are awarded to the top three students in each department.

Hostel Facilities

3

There are multiple hostels just within the campus. I live in one of them. Here we do not have single rooms. It is either double, triple or quadruple sharing. They food is not so bad, but since it is Bangalore, they serve the South Indian food most of the time. I really get irritated by it because it's not so good if you have it on a daily basis. Otherwise , I wouldn't mind too much. There are also PGs available outside the college. But I don't know much about them. I pay around 4000 for food in total.

Alumni/Alumna

The college itself is really old, and has a large network of alumni from all over the world. But they are only mostly visiting for functions and the yearly interactive sessions held in the college. It is not exactly helpful to us, but we get to hear about a variety of options on what we can do with life after college. Otherwise, these interactions doesn't guide us or anyway help in academics. The event is really grand and some people would call it useless, perhaps even a show-off, but it is also a fun event. It is almost a tradition. I enjoyed it.

Exam Structure

No, the exams are cool. Of course, we have to do our part well and study. But they don't have exams every month or anything like that. We have a mid-semester exam and an end-semester exam in a semester. So that's 4 exams per year. We also have an 85% attendance requirement, which I think is too much to ask of a student. Apart from all this we have projects, assignments and seminars and all that kind of work for internal assessment. So the whole 3 years are pretty fixed up. The good thing is, the college sticks to its academic calendar so nothing comes up as a surprise. We get plenty of time to prepare for what's coming.

Faculty

4.5

The whole reputation of Christ University rests upon its teachers. They are all the kind of people who took up the profession for the love of it. They love the subjects they teach and have excelled in these subjects, taking in as any degrees as they can. While teaching, most of them doesn't simply stick to the text. They have great practical knowledge of what they are teaching and tell us more about the new developments in those fields. It keeps the classes interesting. For example, in Mathematics we have the paper on Programming which is a recent development. It is great to be at pace with the world. One thing, which some of the professors lack, is friendliness. While majority are interactive and friendly, some are strict and have that superior air that we associate to the old college professors. It is sometimes discouraging because I have found it difficult to approach such teachers with a doubt. But, as I said, this is a minority issue.
