Course Curriculum Overview

4

I have a clear picture of what I want to pursue in future. I really want to do research and that in chemistry. Choosing an MSc is the starting point of my career. And the course work is really good and majority of that is relevant for GATE and CSIR NET also. Faculty student ratio is good, we have a nice number of faculty (around 50) in school of chemistry. Majority of the faculty have post docs in their respective field and they are, no doubt, well qualified for the paper they teach. They use boards, digital boards and projector to present the slides for better demonstration. They share relevant articles for more information with us. They encourage us to ask more questions even outside the class. They are cool and very interactive. Term exams were on time, we had a four month long semester, that started in August and mid term were in September last week and end term were in November last week. It is not really difficult to pass the exams as the paper is based on what they teach.

Internships Opportunities

2

Many internship are there for science enthusiasts, the placement cell provides information about that, recently there was an internship opportunity at Australian National University, summer internship, that was a fully funded internship. Many of the students join our institute in visiting student research program.

Placement Experience

3.5

Students are eligible for the placement in their final year of the course. We have BS-MS, MSc, IPhD and PhD currently. Students from BS-MS are more likely to be placed. Though placement is less as students mostly go for research after masters. We have a placement cell that notifies about the opportunities in industries and academia. As my plans are to pursue a PhD after getting this degree so I never got interested in placement opportunity.

Fees and Financial Aid

To be honest, I find that course fee is very high, it should not be this much given we do not have any institute based scholarship and most of the central govt scholarships are income based. It's difficult for some students to pay this much. There are campus placements but in the end of the course only, so I am not the right person to answer this.

Campus Life

4.5

Life is so good being there on the hills where we have a waterfall also. science and tech fest that recently happened in October, ANVESHA and upcoming one is ITSAV in month of February. We celebrate mostly every festival in campus be it Onam, Ganpati, Diwali, Christmas etc. The library is well equipped with hard copies and provides with large number of e copies too, one can use the self service kiosk at the library to borrow or return the books. Classrooms are good and lecture halls are just amazing in terms of infrastructure, size and capacity. We have projectors, digital boards there. There are lots of clubs and societies as sports, dance, music, cultural, debate, astronomy, chemistry, physics, mathematics, ecology, biology, data sciences, that keep on conducting different events and activities. All of this along with the mess are conducted by students. We have gym, yoga classes etc in indoor stadium. There's a big playground to conduct sports activities in the campus.

Hostel Facilities

5

Room is too good, the balcony faces beautiful mountains and clouds and greenery. We got a cupboard mounted on wall, a rack, a table, chair and bed in the room. Rooms are double seater. We have washing machines in the hostel. Food is too good in both terms of quality and taste too. It's a student organised mess and they always make sure to provide the best. Hostels are very affordable and registration process was smooth along with the admission process. Matrons are very kind.

Admission

There was a written exam that was MCQ and online proctored exam. After clearing that written test, candidates were called for online interview round 1 and if one cleared that, there was another round 2. After clearing all these three steps, candidates were provisionally selected. Let me mention one thing here that all these processes were online from home and well proctored while web cam was on whole time. One can easily find the application form that is activated in the month of March-April and last date is usually 30th April, exam is conducted in month of May and interview in June. Application fee was 1000? as far as I remember.

Interview Experience

4.5

Yes, there were. One entrance test and then two rounds of interview. Test is MCQ based and mostly covers the syllabus of IIT JAM and graduation level. Same for interview too. The interviewer asks your favorite portion first and then goes on asking questions. I myself prepared for these rounds using my notes that I made during IIT JAM preparation. My elder brother helped me in that.

Other Applied Colleges

Banaras Hindu University - [BHU] | Master of Science [M.Sc] (Chemistry)

I wanted to opt for a research institute as I want to pursue and Excel in pure sciences. IISER is an institution that focuses more on research and lab than course work. Hence I didn't opt for BHU.

Obviously this physics course is tough but the influence of the teachers and other staff made us too motivated and the systematic exam schedule helped us to complete our portion before the exams and there is some more time for the revision purpose.. There teaching method are so useful and they treat us so politely and in friendly nature. So its too easy to clear doubt and feel comfortable to ask them and clear anything.. Its so helpful for us to complete our exam nicely...

Remarks:

JEE Rank was the main factor. The facilities like hostel, labs, etc mentioned in the IIT Palakkad website. During the allotment process, one senior girl student of my branch contacted me and cleared all my doubts whether it was small or big, placement details, etc. After the rankings were released, based on the previous years cut-off ranks, I was able to get a fair idea about the colleges I would be able to join among all the IITs, NITs, IIITs. Based on JEE Mains rankings, NIT or IIITs can be chosen. Based on JEE Advance ranking, IIT can be chosen. Also, 2 mock allotment will take place which gives a fair idea of which allotment we will get. These mock allotment will be based on our preferences. We can change them after the mock. Then the actual allotment will start. Once we finalise our preferences and lock them, there will be 7 rounds of allocation. 3 options will be given in each round-Float, Freeze,Slide (details will be clearly mentioned in the website). Once you are allocated a seat in any round, document verification will take place (seat acceptance fee must be paid at this stage).
