Remarks

The college management is organized and updated. Our college officials are approachable, and punctual indeed. Necessary Information is communicated to the students and respective departments as soon as possible.

Entrance Preview

I had scored 40 out of a total marks of 50 in the College Admission test last year. I opted for Bethune College not only because it is a Government college with a brilliant historical background, but also for it's gifted faculty. Our college, specially the Department of English, is proud to have Women of Letters as college professors. Humility and dedication brims in everywhere in this place. No wonder why I've fallen for this college so much.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The college provides B.A Courses and B.Sc courses, both Honours, and General. The Honours students are required to select one General paper each from two respective sets of subjects. In the first year, the honors students are supposed to prepare for a Compulsory English exam, a paper on Major Indian Language (MIL; Bengali/Hindi/Alternative English), two honors papers, and 1 general paper each from the two subjects. In the second year, the honors students are to sit for exams in w honors papers, and 2 general papers each from the 2 general subjects. Finally, in the third year, honors students are to sit for 4 honors papers and 1 paper on environmental studies. For further details, the college website is always there for you.

Internships Opportunities

No, but our college has a responsive placement cell. Our placement cell invites big companies every year for campus recruitment drives.

Placement Experience

4.5

Every year, our college organises Campus Recruitment Drives for the 3rd year as well as the Postgraduate students. Companies including tech giants like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Cognizant, as well as firms like Netscribes, have come to our campus and the students have passed with flying colours.

College Events

5

Our college student union proudly organises the Annual Inter-college College Fest, Aalap, every year in December. Along with it is organised the Intra-College competitions during August, which is indeed a time of fun and frolic for us students. We also celebrate the death anniversary of our founder John Eliot Drinkwater Bethune as Bethune Day in August, encouraging Van Mahotsav as well. Then, we organise the Sports Day every year, followed by the Alumni Meet or Sammilani, Republic Day and Independence Day.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is very much feasible. The monthly fees of the college is about Rs 100. At the time of admission, an amount if less than Rs 1500 is paid, which is not at all expensive. Hence, I don't think the college fees would be an issue. Again, there are various scholarships provided by the college for the students.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes. Our college provides scholarships for students coming from economically-challenged families. There are provisions for Half-free and Free scholarships too.

Campus Life

4.5

It's a girls' college, which is famous for its amiability and amity. In fact, we promote anti-ragging ideas and make sure that no student is harassed by anyone in any way. Our Student Union is always there for the students, do are our professors. There is no reason to fear here, except the possibility of getting caught while bunking classes!

Hostel Facilities

4

There are no hostel facilities as of now. But, there are many PGs and Hostels situated close to the college campus, right at the heart of North Kolkata. These PGs and Hostels are cheap, provide comfortable accommodation and good food, according to some of my classmates who themselves stay at PGs and Hostels.

Alumni/Alumna

Our Student Union is very helpful and friendly. Our alumni network too is very strong. They still share a strong bond with the college. The confluence of the ex-students with the youngsters is a beautiful sight to see every time.

Exam Structure

Our college laboratories and the computer room is well-equipped. Exams are taken in such a manner so that students are given a breather in between. Midterm exams are held during September-October, after which the Selection Exams are held between January and April.

Admission

I got details from the college website itself. From there, I got the particular website from where the admission form is to be filled up and the necessary amount of Monet submitted. Admission tests for English and Bengali are held, a few weeks after which the merit lists are released. The dates of admission are declared, so are the documents required to complete the procedure. You need not have any issues! Simply check the college website!

Faculty

5

Our professors are dedicated towards academics. They always endeavour at creating a comfortable atmosphere for the students to learn new things, and to bloom themselves. The teachers are extremely hardworking and are approachable; in fact, our professors are quite friendly.

From the point of view of improvements, I feel that digital classes can be conducted in the class by leaving the theory classes. Mere collage The exam level is basically hard and exams are conducted twice a year.

I have always wanted to persue English as a career. I love studying English but not a big fan of the new curriculum by NEP that includes a lot pf irrelevant papers. The semesters are not consistent. Odd semesters usually have a lot of time like 6-8 months but even semesters barely consist of 2-3 months.

Course Curriculum Overview:

We were held a class for upto 1hrs, thus we had 4 class a day. Sometimes it is boaring sometimes it becomes striking, it depends on the mood. It is to say little knowledge is a dangerous thing, if you don't read you cannot pass the semester examination. Although it will provide you a second chance. But with change of syllabus the exam pattern also change. You need to attain a total percentage of 75(%) to maintain you honours subject otherwise you would be regarded as programme course student.
