Course Curriculum Overview
Talking about faculty, if I have to define them, literally they are one of the best teachears you will find in India. Almost every faculty member is PHD holder and most of them is doing research in diiferent streams. Many paper have also published research papers which as a student inspires us. Talking about relationship with us it is so chill. They try to intreact to us in most informal way possible. Their knowledge in their stream is vast and they are literally the smartest minds in country. Coming to curriculum, i am first year btech student and my department is engineering physics. In first year circulum is a little bit chill. Of course you have to study to clear mid sems and end sems but not like JEE. My branch is bit hard as compared to other branches as it is research oriented branch but it is so intresting and it's fun to stufy it.
Placement Experience
Coming to placements, it is something IIT's are know for. We have a separate Placement cell which always get it work done. 7 th sem students are eligible for placement. Many student also get PPO and almost 300 PPO were offered this year. IF I give you rough idea 1900 job offer's were made and company visited were almost 350. Highest package offered was 3.67 crore per annum ( internationally) and average package for this year was around 21 lpa. 83% students were placed during this placement session. My plans after getting degree is startup , i know my department is research oriented but as we are mathematically strong it give us a little edge in placement as compared to other branches and usually EP students get internship in foreign countries which would help me in networking for my startup.
Fees and Financial Aid
IIT's have a fees. If you belong to upper middle class you can definetly afford it. If I estimate it is across 10-12 lakh for four years. There are many scholarship too. If you are general and obc and you family income is less than 1 Lakh per annum you will get the full fee wavier. If you belong to SC and ST caste then also you will get full fees wavier but there is no income criteria for SC and ST students. Of course online tution fees is not taken rest mess and hostel you have to pay it. You can also take loan known as scholar loan which is interest untill you get graduate. Many students opt for loan even after belonging to well to do family as they want to be financially independent. Beside fees there are so many more expenses too such as you have to buy a cycle ( it can also be included in loan) , many lab material, project material etc.
Campus Life
If we come to campus life... No other IIT ( or any other indian college ) is near to IITB. The vibe here is just different. Whatever you want , music , sports, literature, every little thing...IITB has achieved something in that sphere. The failites here is just incredible, this is something you goona admire for your whole life. From organising the biggest cultural fest in Asia " The mood indigo" to tech fest every year just bars are set high. Talking about infrastructre you will find the world class lecture hall with whole aminites like drinking water, fully air conditioned and many more. Talking about liberary it's just so huge you can literally found same book in many different languages. You can find every type of book from novels to bhgwat gita to scientific books. If i mention about sports at IITB , it is nothing less than any international college. There is indoor courts for almost every soprts including many outdoor courts too. Night life here is also awesome.
Admission
As you all know if you want to get into the IIT's you have to first clear the JEE Main and then JEE Advanced. Usually application for JEE Main opens in decemeber and first shift takes place in january and then second in april or march. After the results of JEE Main , JEE Advanced application form starts form next day itself and JEE Advanced takes place in June. You can find more information on nta.nic.in about application. I think as JEE Mains happen in multiple shifts it makes unfair for some students , i know they do the normalization of scores but still it's bit unfair , I think JEE Mains should also happen on a single day for all candidates just like JEE Advanced.
