Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I chose this course because I wanted to be a good civil engineer and make big infrastructures and big buildings. The faculty versus student ratio is good on average there is faculty on 50 students. All the faculties are PhD and studied in foreign countries and the methods of teaching are very good. The term exams were moderate and it was not difficult to pass.

Internships Opportunities

4

Every year a lot of companies come to our campus and provide placements based on the performance of students in the interviews taken by the companies. Moreover, there is cdpc cell in our college through which students can get placements.

Placement Experience

4

On our campus, the placements are very good students are eligible to get a placement in 3rd year. The students can get an internin 3rd year and in the 4th year different companies will come and they will take their interviews and give them placements according to their performance in the interviews. Moreover, their age cdpc in our campus which is the placement cell through which students get their placements in the different sectors. The highest package over campus is 36 lakh and the average package age is nearly 19 lakh. At every time more than 70% of the students got placements in different sectors. After getting the degree my plan is to first to get a placement and then I would study further.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is based on the category to which a student belongs. If you belong to a general category it costs about 1 lakh but if you are from some other category like OBC it will cost you one-third of the total admission fees if you are an sc or ST candidate then your tuition fee is completely zero. There is no need to buy books because there is a library on campus that issues books at no cost. I go to a scholarship because I am from the OBC category and in addition to that I got a scholarship called MCM.

Campus Life

4.5

Life at IIT Ropar is very good. And there is an annual fest which is going to be held next month. Every month there is a text fest held. There is the Nalanda library on the campus in which almost every book can be found. you can issue your books at no cost from the library. On campus, there are a lot of clubs in which a lot of extracurricular activities are held every day. On campus, there are a lot of sports activities held every week. There are a lot of groups that are by the students which is Pehchan ek Safar which is actually an NGO. It gives services to poor children who can't go to school due to their poverty.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

In student's hostels the facilities are very good the bathrooms are clean. In rooms, there are two big LED lights for helping students to study and there is a fan and there is separate almirah for each of the two students staying in their respective rooms. In the mess the food quality is very good and we get food three times a day and at every time there is a different variety of food. The registration process for hostels is simple We just pay some fees and we get our hostel rooms.

Admission

Admission process was smooth. The admission was through the jee advanced exam. Cut off was high but somehow I got a seat in the civil engineering branch. I availed the reservation benefits of the OBC category. The improvement is that there should be more Jossa rounds if possible.

Interview Experience

4

Yes there was a entrance exam for the admission at IIT Ropar. First I had to clear the JEE mains and then I had to clear the advanced test. However, there was not any group discussion or interviews taken it was completely based on our performance in the advanced exam.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
