Remarks

This college was the best decision of my life! Now I see people and they only have a theoretical knowledge but the students of CMS have both theoretical as well as practical knowledge which makes them very efficient as an employee as they know how to work in different things from editing to writing they know everything.

Entrance Preview

One can get a form from Proctor office in the University of Allahabad after which an entrance exam is scheduled and centers are given according to preference. Admit card can be downloaded from the website of the university i.e. www.allduniv.ac.in Entrance forms are available from March and for Professional studies in May. One can also apply online. Exams are very tough and then colleges are given according to merit. For professional studies there are two lists of selection one is main list the other one is the waiting list, students of these two lists are then called for an interview.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

My course was Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies and I must say this is the best Institute under the University of Allahabad where you can get both theoretical as well as practical knowledge. Workshops and summer classes, as well as industrial visits offered by the center, helps a student to understand how everything works. Industrial visits in the companies like Akashwani, Amar Ujala, Doordarshan, etc. also workshops are held under Sarita Brara (journalist), Rehan Fazal (Radio Journalist BBC), Umesh Gogna (freelance photographer) and many more. The students are first introduced to Language both Hindi and English and how the translations are done, then introduction to photography and are given assignments to create a portfolio after which students are taught how to use applications like MS word, Coral Draw, Quark Express in which newspapers formats are made, also how photo editing, audio editing and video editing is done with the help of applications like Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC, Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere Pro, etc. There is also a mac lab where students are allowed to edit videos for documentary and film on MAC. Students are taught how to report, how to take interviews and personality development is done. Pattern of examination is there’s two sessionals per semester and then semester exams are held. In the last semester students are given a group project of making a documentary as well as writing a book along with internship of which students are required to show the certificate and viva is done based on the documentary.

Internships Opportunities

In the last semester everybody’s supposed to do internship as an assignment, students are supposed to find one for themselves as the letter for internship is provided by the college. If there’s problem for a student then faculty helps in getting him/her an internship.

Placement Experience

4

One student of my batch was selected by a company in which he has done an summer internship in 2017, and got the offer letter to job as a Graphic designer in the last semester for the package of 2.6L per annum, The company he is currently working for is Connect Hub. Some seniors of our college was selected as follows One as an actor in a south movie. One got selected in London School of Economics. Others are pursuing a career in editing and photography either as a freelancer or are working under a company.

College Events

3.5

Main festival or annual festival is Agaaz which is a competition of dance, singing, etc. among the four centres. Students are selected after screening is done for this festival it is a 3 days festival where after elimination best centre to win most awards wins the prize. Freshers, teachers day and farewell are held as well. And as the centre is also an art gallery there’s always some kind of exhibition of either art or books.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure is more than other courses in the University of Allahabad, but as it is a professional course more fees is expected. A student needs to pay two installment every year after registration fees is paid Registration fees is around 10-15K First installment (July) -27K Second installment (January) - 15K For three years which makes it around 1.5L in total for tuition fees.

Fees and Financial Aid

University of Allahabad provides scholarships of which details are available on the website. Scholarships on the merit of students and scholarships for the students with low family income.

Campus Life

3.5

College campus is connected to the main campus, Arts Faculty, which is big. The University of Allahabad is divided into three campuses/faculties i.e. Arts, Science, and Commerce. In science faculty, there’s a football ground, basketball court and cricket ground where students can play whichever sports they want. There are international students as well as Indian students from all over the India. No ragging forms are must for every student to provide. Elections are held every year for student leaders where every student of university votes for the leader. There are departments for helping women and international students. There’s very less issues regarding race, religion or related.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Hostels are available in campus of University of Allahabad for girls and separate for boys. There are around 3-4 buildings of hostels. Sharing of room depends on which building you’re choosing. Rooms of dual sharing are clean and spacious. Toilets and washrooms are also clean. For international students there’s separate hostel which is provided to them. Mess- Food - average Cost - average PGs- PGs are available at normal prices in all over the city the ones near university are a bit expensive than the ones on the other parts of the city. Rent amount- Around 4-6K per month

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors were very experienced and were supportive to their juniors, didn’t make anyone feel like they’re new.

Exam Structure

Since exams are semester based and there is also sessionals in between, the pressure of exams are much lesser. Labs are easily accessible for a student and practicals are always based on what we have learned and the applications change every semester like first you are asked to design on word then on CoralDraw after that Quark Express which makes it easier to understand from the basic rather than jumping on the difficult one.

Admission

I chose the Institute of Professional studies which is under University of Allahabad. Institute of professional studies have four centres under it i.e. Centre of Media studies Centre of Fashion Design and Technology Centre of food Technology Centre of computer technology To get in these you need to fill the form which generally comes out in May. Then you’ll have to take an entrance examination which is generally held in June after which the result will be out on the website where you can check if you are selected for an interview, if yes then you need to check the date on which your interview is held generally it is held in July. In the interview you need to carry your documents like marksheets of matriculation and other certificates. You need to get prepared with some relatable questions which are asked by the administration. If your interview goes right then you can check the final list on college or on the website, after getting selected you’ll be called for getting the registration done and as Institute of Professional Studies have a uniform, you’ll be required to get your measurements done. Before the college starts Induction classes are held at the auditorium of Centre of Food Technology where you need to introduce yourself and the details of the course are given in short then they’ll handover you the books inside bag along with ID card and uniform. Then an orientation class is held where you are introduced to the faculty of your centre and the subject they are going to teach. Then in August the new batch starts.

Course Curriculum Overview:

the course structure was well designed and updated with the ongoing preparations of government exams which helped me alot in my preparations as everywhere polity is something that is a mandatory one and hence the curriculum plus the overall teaching pattern the timing of exams and the level of difficulty was moderate if someone had attended all the classes, plus the marking scheme was a bit hard and other aspects like attendance was also included, however there's no such compulsion that one must attend the classes this was only applicable for sessionals

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum at Amity University is a well rounded blend of theortical principles and practical relevance that shaped my future career. There are modules like microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics and statistics that provide a strong formation for any future career opportunities in economics or finance. Additionally the presence of specialise subject like health economics, developmental economics, international trade, public policy and behavioural economics very highly appealing and something you would not find in other universities or/and government university. The inclusion of such modules got my attention because it promised to go beyond traditional economic subjects and focusing on the practical subjects that are also industry specific level of domain of economics. They were also research projects, data analysis classes, case studies throughout the three year course which allows students to apply and test their knoweldge that further enhance the value of the degree. There were also subjects like environmental sciences, psychology, communicative English which was made mandatory for students that help them shape their personality and adapt more to a corporate setting. The examination system is designed to assess the viability of skills and critically but the difficulty of exam especially towards the end of semester can create unnecessary pressure for students. There will be time that there will be last minute syllabus changes or additional chapters to be considered and there is no structured format of what you can expect in the written exam however there is a fair grading system though some students feel that instead of the exams there can be more emphasis on analytical side rather than modules that require rote learning.
