Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is good but hectic. The electronics department of our college in well known for having for having the best professors in the nation. I choose the ECE branch because first of all I did not get a CSE branch in jee exams. And also the ECE branch is the second best branch of our college. Faculty to students ratio is good as class strength is almost 60. Most of the professors have a foreign or IIT PhD degree. Exams here are really difficult. We get approximately 1 month to prepare for midsems exams and 1.5 months for endsems. The exam questions are mostly PYQs . It is easier to get a good CG if you study with a good planning like studying 2 weeks before exams sincerely. The teachers here teach sincerely but some of them do not. If a student studies with planning like doing PYQs before exams and the assignment given by teacher he/she can easily pass the exam.
Internships Opportunities
The students are eligible for summer internships in the second and third years in B.tech and for M.tech they are eligible in the first year. It is usually about 6-8 weeks long and conducted during the summer holidays. Apart from these winter internships are also provided from December to January and are short in duration. The institute has very good relations with various companies like Amazon, Microsoft Flipkart, etc. These companies provide internship opportunities to NITR students. A total of 403 internships were offered on an average stipend of 40000. And the highest stipend was 3 lakhs. This year Oracle has provided 3 students with a stipend of 3 lakhs. To get these internships one should have a strong grip on DSA, OOPS, OS, DBMS, Networking, and problem-solving skills. Apart from these, your resume should out stand with unique projects of either web development or app development.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placements from the seventh semester for placements in B.tech and the third semester in M.tech. Companies visited and offers made: NITR attracts a wide range of companies for placements, some of them are well known like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Deloitte, Infosys, TCS, etc. For circuital branches, placements stats are very good, around 22 lakhs average for CSE, 18 lakhs for ECE, and 16 lakhs for EE. The highest package offered was 89 lakhs off-campus and the on-campus highest package was 53 lakhs. 12 students got more than 50 lpa from on-campus placements and 200 students got more than 20 lpa. The percentage of placements for the electrical and electronics branch is 99%.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure at NITR is almost the same as other NITs for the first year. One has to pay a total of 124k which includes the caution money, hostel rents, tuition fees, etc. For the 2nd -3rd year it remains at 99k each year. For the 4th year, there are convocation fees of 2500 extra. Tuition fees are exempted based on family income and caste for SC/ST/PH income less than 1 lakh has a full tuition fee waiver. For income less than 5 lakh and more than 1 lakh, one has to pay 1/3rd of the tuition fee. More an income of more than 5 lakh one has to pay full fees. There are various scholarship opportunities at NITR like post matric scholarship for SC/ST. Top class scholarship for all students given by TCS and nation talent scholarship, etc.
Campus Life
In NITR fests are held throughout the academic year. Some of them are Nitrutsav, Innovision, vriddhi, and Cosmopolitan. INNOVISION, the flagship tech fest attracts and houses tech enthusiasts all over the nation, and it is held in the first week of November. NITRUTSUV, the official cultural fest of NITR is held in February. People from all over the state come and witness the three-day event. A wide range of literally and cultural events are organised with celebrity nights.NITR has a central library called Biju Pattnaik central library. Fully digitalized, the central library has 86k plus books on science and technology,7k plus thesis, and 8k e-journals. It's a nice play to study and it is fully air conditioned. All classrooms are fully air-conditioned and have a projector for better learning. Sac (student activity centre), where various student activities are performed, clubs are Cyborg(robotics club) and Synergy (dance club), there are a total of 90 plus clubs and societies.
Admission
To be eligible to study at NIT ROURKELA you have to qualify for JEE MAINS which is conducted by NTA. After that JoSSA conduct all admission process , if you crossed the cutoff percentile for admission you are allowed to choose your favourable college and branch and based on your percentile you get your alloted college and course. There is a quota for SC/ST/OBC and EWS through which you can avail reservation for seats.Students who are underprivileged or comes under less annual income get fee waiver from course fees, if your annual income is less than 5LPA you will get 2/3rd of course fee waiver and if it is less than 1LPA you will get 100 percent fee waiver in your course fee which is a very good attempt from institute. At the time of the physical admission process, there was a long queue of students, that was a big problem for me and I think that can be improved so that the whole process will become more smooth.
