What Students Say?
Likes
- The fact that they pay attention to all the students individually is something that seems impossible for institutions to handle but in Salesian college I found quite the opposite.
- The library contains books that are very old and are very helpful for the students doing research. Also, research is mandatory for almost all the departments in the college
Dislikes
- The students are too less which makes the competition less rough and thus the students fail to work hard at times.
- A little too strict regarding the uniform and rules which make it difficult for students from creative and art departments to work and express themselves.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course turned out to be very interesting and as a student who is interested in practical activities, it has helped me to explore parts of me that I was unaware of earlier. Due to my interest in writing this course was extremely helpful for me and it gave me a chance to figure out and sharpen my skills. The college consists of about 600 students and 40-50 faculty members. Mass Communication particularly had 4 faculty members and 15 students in one semester. The faculty members have all completed their respective masters and almost all are pursuing either Ph.D. or higher education. The exams were held twice every 6 months, one from the college- internal examinations and the other one by the university- board examinations. It was from the syllabus itself so it was not as difficult however the university exams did take it a step ahead and made it difficult for the students at times.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is an opportunity for scholarships for both students who have done academically excellent or who belong to a poor background. The college has an approx fee structure of 2.5 lacs and is fine for a practical course where the students get the benefit of facilities like- a community radio station, studio, approximately 5 cameras and video cameras, microphones, etc. The college charges 25,000 approx for one semester i.e. six months, that is to be paid at once. I did not opt for any sort of scholarship.
Campus Life
Life at the campus is a rush with perks of recognition and boost. since the college consists of few students and a good amount of faculty members I personally felt that every individual student was well-paid attention to and was well taken care of. both personal and professional help was provided. The college holds various fests like Salesian Fiesta, Varghese Memorial football, etc. The departments individually hold a lot of events in the college free to all interested participants. the college has a vast library that contains books from the old era and newspapers as well that are about 20-30 years old. It is very helpful for students who want to pursue their higher education and do in-depth research. The classrooms contain smart tv and also rooms with gadgets that are separately made for the students to go to like- a studio room, radio station, research library, computer room, etc. The sports activities are generally handled by the sports coordinator along with several clubs.
Admission
I pursued my graduation degree from Salesian College, Sonada and did not sit for any entrance exams for my college admission process. After aplying I got a call from the college course's HoD who took a telephonic interview. the cut was 60% approximately and even though I joined in late I was able to join the course. The application form for Salesian College, Sonada for the course of B.A in Mass Communication and Journalism is available on the college's official website as well as the college portal. I did not opt for any reservation benefits however their are some for the students who belong to the Christian community students.
