- Faculty of the college is really good and they put their efforts to teach students and encourage them to move out of their comfort zone.
- Views of Himalayas that you get from the hostel and campus as well are beautiful and breathtaking.
- The exposure you get from your peers and things you can learn from them is a experience of lifetime as there is good diversity in course.
Dislikes
- The hostel is 5km away from the temporary campus and this makes it difficult to travel from campus to hostel.
Course Curriculum Overview
I choose the core program because through this program I can choose my specialization in marketing in the second year. My major interest is in marketing. The faculty of the college is around 36 and the students are around 237 in the 1st year core program. As per my knowledge and through my experience the faculty is really good and delivers the knowledge for which we came here. Each professor is an expert in their field and teaches students with enthusiasm. Sessions are of 3 months each and so final exams are every 3 months. Along with this we also have mid-term exams so exams are every 1.5 months. Along with this, there are regular quizzes and case study discussions.
Placement Experience
After your 1st semester, you get the opportunity to get a summer internship and mostly it is a paid one. Companies with really nice roles and good brand visit campus. I don't have the exact data right now about the companies. The highest package was 64 lakhs for 2023 and the average is around 14.5 lakhs. The placement is 100 percent and you will get a good amount of opportunities to get your desired role.
Fees and Financial Aid
I would say that paying 16 lakhs for any course in India is really too much but for Mba and opportunities, it is still fine as this is also charged by other IIMs. I have only given it 5 as it is still expensive because of the facilities we are getting. We don't have a permanent campus and this leads to wasting 1-2 hours daily just to travel and waiting for time. The IIMs of 3rd generation which are offering permanent campus are charging the same amount. There are loans that one can get at decent interest rates and people can even get scholarships and financial assistance.
Campus Life
The annual fest of IIM Sirmaur is "Sierra" and as it has just been 2 weeks of my MBA journey I haven't experienced it. The library is good with great availability of books and journals. You get all the basic amenities like good air-conditioned classes, proper furniture, and a projector in your class. For sports, you have football, cricket, volleyball, badminton and a lot of indoor games. There are a lot of clubs and committees where you can learn and get exposure. Make connections for a lifetime.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are decent as you get a room with good space, an almirah, a desk to work, and a bookshelf. One room is shared by 2 students. Food quality is ok. It is not the best food but still good enough to eat. The hostel is included in the fees we pay for our college as it is a residential program. The hostel is around 5 km from the hostel and this is the only negative thing about the hostel. Other than that you get a beautiful view of the Himalayas from your room.
Admission
To take part in the admission process for IIM, Sirmaur you have to give CAT (common admission test) and select IIM SIRMAUR as one of your options. After getting the CAT result, you will get calls from different colleges as per your score, category, and profile. The application date for CAT is around September and fees for the general category are 2300 rupees. For different reservation categories ( SC, ST, OBC, EWS) students get benefits and get a fixed amount of seats in most of the colleges and this is also applicable in IIM, Sirmaur. The improvement that I want to see in the admission process is transparency as there was no clear idea given to students for their waitlist rank, and no idea of composite score. This makes it difficult for students to evaluate their position.
Interview Experience
The admission process included an interview after getting a call from CAP(common admission process) which included 8 other IIMs. The process of the interview went smoothly with a great experience and interesting conversation. The other criterion which was only for females was SAP. I took an online PI coaching from BTRIBE to get myself ready for the interviews.
