Remarks
The admission process for ug, pg and other courses is through admission tests which are conducted by the university. There are two phases in admission. For pg admission, no candidate shall be eligible for admission after a lapse of two or three years from the year of passing the previous qualification examination.
Course Curriculum Overview
The Department of English began operations in July 2017 and now enrols 226 students throughout its undergraduate and graduate programmes. Six full-time faculty members, two guest professors, and one visiting lecturer make up the department. The Department began offering PhD courses in July 2019 and currently has nine research scholars working on projects. The department's teaching strategies strike a delicate balance between more conventional modes of instruction using textual exegesis and the use of digital media, including PowerPoint presentations, audio-visual formats, experimental exercises as part of educational processes, and interactive sessions. The professors have also recorded their lectures. There have been a number of invited academic lectures given, followed by student exchanges that have greatly benefited the department's overall academic atmosphere.
Fees and Financial Aid
Application Fee for all courses: 1000 Components of Fee Structure for Session 2023-2026 Admission fee for all courses: 30,000 Semester fee - 48000 (per semester) There are many scholarships offered by the university, also there is a special West Bengal government credit card loan facility. The University hosts a placement cell, that functions actively in engaging student-industry exchange, and there are regular placement directives and sessions held during semesters. For the session 2017-2019, nearly 78 per cent of students of the Department of English have been interns with various organizations like Millenium Post, Echo of India, The Hope Foundation, SAGE Publication, Business Economics and many more. There have been successful campus drives and recruitments by Cognizant and many other big organisations in 2019.
Campus Life
St Xavier's University offers hostel facilities to its students, particularly to the students of the MBA Degree Programme, as this programme is a residential one. Separate hostel buildings for women and men are available. There's a sports committee that organises sports events throughout the year. Also, there is a cultural committee, a literary society and a photography society. SXUK has different types of air-conditioned classrooms which include Galleries, Amphitheatres, Halls of Fame and other classrooms. The University provides Computer Lab facilities to its students. The MAC Lab is also there for the students of the Department of Mass Communication.
