Remarks
The college is extremely strict about time. They have their own time zone called as the SST Symbiosis State Time which is faster than the current time by 3.5 minutes or at times 5 minutes aas per the discretion of the director. This gets extremely annoying at times as you're not allowed to enter the floor corridor despite being just 10 or even 5 seconds late. The college is extremely strict about the dress code and will often fine you for not following the same. Also, 75% minimum attendance is required to be eligible for wrote the exam. The college doesn't put fines in this case. They simply don't allow you to write the exam. There are no excused holidays for Medical illnesses no matter what the intensity which is extremely annoying.
Entrance Preview
To get in, you have to write the SET or Symbiosis Entrance Test. The cut off for Symbiosis Noida was at 93/150 and I score a 93. After which, there was an interview which I cleared and made through in the first list for BA. LLB. Reasons to chose the institution were simple, firstly, Symbiosis ranks in the top 3 private Institutions for Law in India and considering a decent performance in CLAT, Symbiosis was the way to go. Noida campus is fairly new and is hence, strictly adherent to its ethos, making the institution, an extremely professional one. Thus, I chose the institution partially due to circumstances and partially due to its merit.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose the BA LLB course and am done with my first semester. The college has a set number of hours to fulfill as set by the Symbiosis International University (SIU) and thus, doesn't believe in giving breaks to students. The Teacher's however, have the autonomy to dive deep into theor subjects or give a general overview of the same. Another major factor is the Subjects that are given to the first year students. Alongwoth the traditional Social sciences, including Sociology and History, the first year BA LLB students are given Jurisprudence, a subjects that is generally tackled in the 6th semester in NLUs and other basic law subjects such as Law of Torts and Legal Databases with English. The teachers that I had the privilege to study under, where pretty stern in their approach relating to the course. They wanted to finish the chapters that they has decided in consensus with the director and thus, a few teachers also had monologue based classes with few scopes of interaction. But, in subjects where discussion and Interaction was necessary, subjects such as Jurisprudence, Sociology and Foundation of Ethics, the faculty made sure to interact with us. Every faculty uses their power point presentations to teach us and often, refers to us External research documents as uploaded to the University's Website. When it comes to research initiatives. The same, are taken seriously only after the 4th semester from the Administration's side. Before that, the college facilitates all research initiatives and reimburses for the same, but doesn't proactively inform or train students for them.
Internships Opportunities
The college offers to provide Internships through their Placement cell but you have the option to apply elsewhere on your own. There is an Internship diary that you have to maintain throughout the 5 years and 9 internships are mandatory throughout the 5 year course. Marked Presentations of the Internships are also present.
Placement Experience
The placement scene is just like the NLU's only the top 15 of the college get placed with huge packages of 15lpa+. The average package depends upon the field of expertise. For instance, the litigation average packages are around 25 to 30,000 where as the same can go upto 3 to 4lpa in corporate firms.
College Events
The students organize all the events as the administration wants us to be able to manage things well. Symfiesta is the flagship even of the college where Famous Dj's musicians, comedians such as EIC, AIB, etc come for the fest along with contingents for debate, drama, dance, singing from the college as well as other colleges take part in. There are frequent events relating to research initiatives held by the college along with culture oriented talks by experts. There is a designated culture evening per month to help students deal with stress. There is another sports fest known as APRACHIT that too is of a huge magnitude where colleges across the nation are invited.
Fee Structure And Facilities
2,35,000 is the fees for a year. 1,20,000 for the first semester and 1,15,000 for the 2nd semester. The hostel for Boys will only be available after the new campus, Adjoining the current one will be finished. Mostly from the 2nd half of 2018. Currently, the college provides hostel facilities to girls.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college helps in getting loans and provides scholarships on the basis of economic necessity.
Campus Life
The college generally facilitates academic and sport related initiatives in terms of extracurricular activities. Other types of activities are supported too, but don't have an organised hierarchy of faculty available to deal with. Thus, the person has to approach the director for the same.
Hostel Facilities
Triple occupancy sharing hostel rooms for Girls. PG's with decent quality available off campus in nearby apartments. As far as my knowledge goes, the food was decent.
Alumni/Alumna
The college has an online portal known as 'The Owl' that helps students interact with the Alumni. Alumni often come back to the college as guest lecturers or to give seminars about their fields of research.
Exam Structure
Exams latter's per semester go like this:- 1)Interim submission of your Research paper 2) Tutorial 1 - First open book test 3) Final Submission of the Research Paper 4) Vivas 5) Tutorial 2 - Second Open book test 6) External Examination - not an open book exam All these take place within 3 months of college. Thus, are extremely hectic in nature and take some time to adjust to.
Faculty
As mentioned above, the teachers have the autonomy to teach in their own pattern as long as they fulfill the hour limits. Majority of the faculty is young, often just done with their masters and Phd's and thus, can very well relate with the students and often help us out in academic problems. The faculty lacks experience in the field of teaching but accommodates for the same, in their patterns of teaching, making it simple for the students without missing the essence of the subject.
