Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum is very flexible, as per the current changes in education system it is formulated to make the students ready for the future. Jadavpur University, Kolkata awards the degree for the B.Com. Honours programme at J. D. Birla Institute (Department of Commerce). It is is an all-girls department located at the main campus. The degree in Commerce provides basic training to students in all major subjects, such as Finance, Marketing, Human Resource, Entrepreneurship and Accounting Practices along with training in computer and soft skills. Further, the course also prepares students for professional courses such as MBA, CA, CS etc. Recently the course has been upgraded to include specializations in the final year (semester V-& VI). The college has a Research Committee that strives to make a contribution to the furthering of research at the Institute. The Research Committee also provides vision and leadership in relation to research and research training.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, J.D.Birla Institute does provide internship. Internship training in the final year is one of the most significant aspects of the courses which was offered to each and every student by the Institute. Students are sent to various organizations in their relevant field of study to gain practical experience and apply their classroom teaching to real life situations. The stipend depends upon company to company.

Placement Experience

5

Various companies approach the Institute from time to time for recruitment of students and conduct campus interviews for the same. In addition, organizations where students undergo their internship also hire students after they complete their graduation.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is little bit higher than the other colleges in West Bengal, but it is feasible because of the facilities provided by college. At the time of admission I had to pay near about Rs.24000 for 1st semester. and after that for the other three semester i had to pay around Rs.14000

Fees and Financial Aid

Freeship is granted by the Management based on merit and financial status of the students. Freeship may also be granted to students with proven record of representing the State / Country in any co-curricular or extra-curricular activities. To avail of this facility, one can fill the prescribed form available at the college office and submit the same to the Principal’s office under proper norms.

Campus Life

3.5

It is a total girls college. We got freshers as well as farewell party. Their are many workshops and seminars by delagates around the world. We have to sign an anti-ragging form, thus their is absolutely no ragging.as far as i know, because neither i was a part of any ragging nor I saw anyone facing any kind of bullying or ragging. We had many extra-curricular activities which involved social service, sports concerts etc. We even had councilors and dietitian in our college.

Hostel Facilities

4

their is no such hostel facility in J.D.Birla Institute. I hope they have hostel facility. But we have canteen in our college which not only maintains high standard of hygiene but also nutritious food. The cost of food items in canteen is also very pocket friendly for students, ranging from Rs. 5 to Rs. 40.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors were very helpful in guiding us with our research work and projects. They in even helped us in getting placement by refering us to their place of work.

Exam Structure

examination evaluation was done on both:- continuous internal evaluation. Which carried 40% weightage, end semester evaluation which carried 60% weightage. Each semester comprises of around 15 weeks i.e near about six months. Internal evaluation includes assignments, group discussion, presentation, written test, research work etc.

Admission

I bought the prospectus and the from the college. Now a days they also have online form fill up.Then i filled the form along with 1000 rupees, which was the cost of the form. The cut off marks was 70% and if one did not had maths in their English plus three subjects then their percentage would have been taken as 5% less, but since I had maths my percentage was taken as it is. Then i had to give a written test as described above. All the dates for test, list of candidates selected, payment date, and new session starting dates where given in the prospectus. It was a hassle free procedure. My name was their in the 4th listAfter being shortlisted in the test, i had to submit my admission fee within 24hrs. after which i got admitted.

Faculty

The Institute has professionally qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty from various educational fields, who contribute to the Institute's academic excellence. We got ample opportunities to interface with faculty members and engage with them intellectually, both within and outside the classroom. Our pedagogy encourages constant interaction between students and faculty via seminars, discussions, term-papers, one-on-one mentoring, field trips, industry visits, excursions and other co-curricular activities. We even had a formal Students' Feedback process conducted at the end of each semester by an external agency to ensure objective results.
