Course Curriculum Overview
I enrolled in this degree since it is the only MBA programme in tourism offered by an IIM, giving it an advantage over private universities that also offer this programme. I have always had a passion for the tourism industry. The well-qualified instructors here have experience teaching in the tourism industry. In addition to tourism-related courses, this programme also includes general management courses that help students expand their horizons in this area. Exams are administered here in two phases: the first is midterm, followed by endterm. This is solely for first-year students; second-year students must simply complete the end-term. Exams primarily assess your knowledge through applications, while some are case-based and some are not.
Internships Opportunities
Interns are hired by a wide range of well-known companies, and they are compensated well for their time. The students were hired by companies like Adani, Daimler Trucks, R.B.I., Digit Insurance, and many more.
Placement Experience
Students receive a quality placement as this year's average package is around 12 lakhs and a number of organisations participated in the placement drive. This year's highest package is around 34 lakhs, and approximately 12-14 students received international offers as well. The placement season begins in approximately September, and students receive a quality placement. In addition, this programme offers a placement rate of one hundred per cent.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition for this programme, without including mess costs, was roughly 12 lakhs when I joined. 12 lakhs comprised housing, tuition, and other costs. Additionally, the institute offers a number of scholarship programmes for students who are struggling financially. This training is worth the money because it offers placements of roughly 12 lakhs.
Campus Life
Sierra, the institute's yearly festival, takes place between February and March. the fest has different types of case and non-case-based competitions and various guest celebrities also perform during this fest. In terms of classroom amenities, the classroom has all of the necessary facilities that are required because the institute is in transition, therefore not many amenities are available. The library of this institute is highly advanced and offers a variety of journals. The Institute contains approximately 25-30 clubs and committees ranging from marketing to tourism. Each field has its own clubs. Sports facilities are available, but they are not particularly impressive. However, many sports tournaments, such as the SPL, SBL, and others, are held each year.
Hostel Facilities
As the institute is in a transitional phase, the hostels are located 4-5 kilometres away from campus, and there are only a handful of them. Each hostels has mess facilities, and the mess food here is quite tasty, with four meals per day. You need to stay in hostels, as there are no private or rented rooms available, and the hostels are located in a convenient area, making shopping and dining convenient. There is no complicated procedure for hostel registration; you will be assigned a hostel at the time of registration.
Admission
To apply for this programme, you must take the CAT exam, and the minimal percentile for qualification is determined by the institute. There will be a unique application form for this programme, with a minimum fee of roughly rs500. If you are a reserved category student, you have a very good probability of converting because reserved students have their own seats.
Interview Experience
When I was in the process, it was COVID period, so everything was done online, and there was only one person interview where basic general knowledge questions, questions about the tourism industry, and questions related to the person's background were asked. So, in order to be up to date for the interview, I used to read news articles and current events.
