Course Curriculum Overview
For a Sectoral-MBA, this course is really well-planned and executed. But, since it has only recently completed 3 years since it started, MBA-THM is still constantly updating and improving. It has a great future as the tourism industry grows in India and abroad. The faculty are also constantly growing{new and more experienced professors are being recruited and some of the existing professors(50%) are also quite well} and under the new director, the institute is poised to accelerate in many ways.
Internships Opportunities
Summer Internships happen year-round in IIM Sirmaur, which is a good way to reach many companies but could be frustrating for students as pressure mounts. Although most baby IIMs don't have a strong industrial relationship and counselling board and an experienced placement council, thereby it's the same problem for each of them.
Placement Experience
Summer Internships were excellent for this batch, and the final placements also crossed the previous year's average. Some very good industrial relations were established this year, which could mean significant growth in the mean and median numbers as well as better and larger organizations coming for the campus placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are bound to hike this year, but it is already one of the lowest fees for an MBA in IIMs. This year the course may just achieve a positive 1-year ROI. Financial assistance is easy to get from any bank in India (same as all IIM courses). Although I would recommend getting the loan approved from the local branches of the banks near IIM Sirmaur, rather home branch.
Campus Life
Life at IIM-Sirmaur for THM students is almost the same as the Core MBA students. And everything regarding that is already available on the institute's socials. The only downfall is the temporary campus, which is sometimes really a pain in the backside. But there are hopes that the students would get their permanent campus by the end of 2023.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels for boys are currently located outside the campus(bus service connects regularly), and girls live inside the campus hostels. The rooms are shared(2 or 3) and they are quite good and clean. Mess is also very accommodating and hygienic. Although students will get separate rooms and better facilities on the permanent campus.
Admission
The process was the same as the core MBA. you have to write the CAT exam but apply for the course separately—the application form usually comes after the CAT exam around January or February. The interview was in March, and the results were in April end(1st list; I was selected in May in the second list).
Interview Experience
There was only an interview after getting shortlisted. It was partially on my background, academics, analytical & logical ability, problem-solving skills, and awareness; and partially sector-specific. General and state-specific tourism questions were asked. Overall the interview lasted for around 15-18 mins and was light-hearted.
