Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I have chosen Electronics and communication engineering as my branch, because of it's versatility. The faculty here are Good, but some of them are lesser experienced like they are doing masters here and they teach us also. Teaching methods are generally good, but you may find some of the faculty members have a lesser experience. Term exams generally occur timely and if you study moderately, you will pass easily.

Placement Experience

2.5

From the 7th semester onwards you will be eligible for campus placements. There are no such big companies that visit the university but there are some mass recruiters that visit the university. But one or two students get good placement every year. For this year one student of the ECE department got a package of 17 LPA at Zscaler. And the average package is around 4.5-5LPA. And about 60% of students get placement offers.

Fees and Financial Aid

One good thing about the university is that they do not increase the semester fee midway. And there are various opportunities for scholarships, especially if you are a Punjab resident, but in case you failed in any subject your scholarship will be cancelled.

Campus Life

1.5

This is the area where the university needs much improvement. As there is no certainty about the annual fest. When will it happen, whether it will happen or not, There is no certainty. If it happens, it is not enjoyable at all, the fest is not organised at a vast scale, and even very few students participate in the fest. The library on the other hand is good. There is a large number of books available and also the area is well equipped for learning. Extracurricular activities in college are not so fun. As there are not extracurricular activities happening.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The hostel facility is somewhat average. The hostel building is great. You get a room in which two students will reside. Washroom is attached to your room. A lift facility is also available however most of the time you will find it shut. But the main drawback is there is no Wi-Fi facility available in the hostel. And the management Is poor. But it is affordable at 15000 per year. Meal quality is also acceptable.

Admission

There was no percentage barrier for admission, If you have passed the 12th examination in Physics, chemistry and mathematics, you are eligible for admission to B.tech. The application for admission is available at PTU's official website. Advertisements of admission should be displayed more.

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
