Insider Perspective on IIT Delhi

I chose Computer Science engineering as i am interested in research in this field. There are many capable faculties in each department to aid in all parts of curriculum including academics and courses and also research projects. Each professor is highly qualified and masters in their field. Each course is taught by a particular professor who can have flexible course policies but can sometimes have a large courseload. Exams are taken thrice in a semester and it is moderately easy to pass.

4rth year students are allowed to sit for placements through the institute's placement cell called OCS (Office of Career Services). Around 100+ of good companies from different sectors like Tech, finance, consulting, core etc come for recruitment. Average package offered is around 20L and highest package can go as high as 2 Cr pa. I wish to pursue highed education and enter research after this degree.

The fees is dependant on the family income of students. For students with family income < 5 Lakhs, they pay 1/3 of the tuition fee, ie, 33000 instead of 100000 per semester and students with family income less than 1 Lakh are exempt from paying tuition fees. There are multiple MCM (Merit cum Means) scholarships to help meritorious students with low income. I also got Endowment Scholarship of 100000 which is given to top 15 male and top 15 female students in each year.

We have our cultural fest Rendezvous around the month of october and Tech Fest Tryst around the month of March. They include a lot of fun and interesting activities, competitions and guests like for pronite concerts. Library is stocked with all the books needed for curriculum, although I have not explored them enough since e books are enough. There are boards for cultural clubs and sports which help with the holistic development and help in a non monotonous life of students.

We have a single or double room depending on which hostel you get. Each hostel is equipped with a table chair and bed. The basic requirements of living are met but sometimes some facilities are lacking. Meal quality are good compared to other mess but not good compared to a general household meal. Each person gets a hostel allocated granted they live more than 10-12 km from campus. The fees is high, around 60000 per semester of hostel.

The admission criterial is based on rank achieved in JEE Advanced. Each branch in each IIT has a particular closing rank. To qualify for JEE Advanced one needs to clear JEE Mains. JEE Mains is conducted by NTA and forms and application dates can be found on their site. The fees of application was around 600-700 per attempt of JEE Mains and if you clear for Advanced, their is no charge for attempting JEE Advanced. Reservation benefits are offered to OBC, SC/ST and EWS(Economically Weaker Section) categories. They have relaxed competition and thus can get better branch and IIT.
