Life at SMS????

SMS CUSAT is one of the oldest Management Schools in the country and the current MBA program they are offering is highly industry-oriented with well-structured academic pedagogy. The college has one of the highest student-faculty ratios, approximately 4:1 which is great. All the faculty members are highly qualified and talented professionals having in-depth knowledge in their domain area. SMS follows the Out Based Learning Pattern (Bloomberg) and hence it provides great exposure to the outside world and current industry trends for the students than just what's in the textbooks. SMS has a semester-based exam pattern and exams would be on time and saying about the difficulty of exams I would rather say that you know the core basis of what you are learning and can link that to the current environment around you (as the questions would be related to the current trends and happenings), the exams would not be a tough wall.

Various internship opportunities are available from the first semester with companies and organizations like- ICICI, HDFC, LULU, Infosys, and Himatsingka Group varying across fields of operations, finance, marketing, etc.

Placements begin at the end of the second semester and continue till the last semester. The past recruiters include - Amazon, IOAG, Asian Paints, Federal Bank, Cipla, Honda, DHL, FedEx, EY, Cognizant, Agape, KPMG, Oracle, IBM, Oyo, Nestle, Larsen and Toubro, Synthite, Pepsico, HUL and many more. The highest package offered last year was 20 lakhs by Khimji Ramdas.

SMS offers one of the highest ROI amongst business schools in the country. Apart from that there are numerous scholarships available to the students once they join the college like Central and State scholarships, E - Grands, and also Cochin University offers scholarships to eligible meritorious students.

Cultural, Programs, and Events are always around the corner, and since being a part of CUSAT University, you could always find some activities in a month. And if you are a sports person this would be the perfect place for you; Again being a part of a university like CUSAT you get multiple platforms to show your talents whether be it in sports or arts. Talking about library facilities the students can utilize the SMS College Library and also has the access to University Library which is just a minute's walk from the college. Both libraries are well packed with all the required books, journals, and publishings. We can also utilize the free wifi facilities in both of these places for our educational purposes. The classrooms are well equipped with amenities like smart walls and speech diseases. Also, the college offers participation in various clubs, Service organizations, and professional bodies like NSS, IMA, PMI, etc.

The hostel facilities of the 2 hostels that I know by my personal experience are very good for a government hostel, that too at a monthly rate of just Rs.320/-. It's been heard that the girl's hostels are not that great and are a bit congested. The food provided in the men's hostel is also of good quality and at a reasonable price. In case you don't want the hostel, there are numerous rental, and P.G facilities available near to the college.

Eligibility - A valid score in KMAT (2022 cut-off was somewhere around 360), CMAT (above 80 Percentile would be good), CAT (same as CMAT). It is important that you also perform well in your Group Discussion and Personal Interview Session in order secure admission to SMS, and CUSAT; as high marks in your qualifying exams alone wouldn't grab you a seat. As I have mentioned GD and Interviews play a crucial role in securing admission at SMS, and CUSAT. For us, the GD topic was traditional media v/s. the modern media. The interview questions range from the typical Why an MBA program to details mentioned by you in the personal data sheet that would be provided to you on the date of GDPI once you reach the college.
