Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

MBA was necessary to shape up my entire career trajectory and K J Somaiya Institue of Management aligned rightly with my expectations. They have an excellent faculty with a faculty: student ratio of 1:24. They inculcate knowledge majorly via the use of various HBR cases and fun activities. Classes at K J Somaiya are full of learning and fun. HBR teaching method helps students in understanding various real industry-based scenarios. The majority of the professors are stalwarts in various domains of management with several years of work experience. Our end-term exams are pretty well structured and are as per the schedule. They require conceptual clarity along with some practice.

Placement Experience

3.5

From the fourth semester onwards students get eligible to sit for final placements as their summer internship gets over. Total of 132 recruiters visited the campus for 2022 placements. The average package is 12.28 LPA and the highest package is of 22.50 LPA. A wide variety of companies hire students of K J Somaiya. These range from top companies such as Nestle, and Salesforce to start-ups. K J is known for achieving 99% placement every year. I have also planned to take a decent placement from the campus only in the field of marketing and brand management.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions

Two-year college fees are Rs. 19,94,900 and hostel fees are Rs. 177250 per year. Students having a family income of Rs.8,00,000 per annum can avail of financial aid. The average package of the 2021-2023 batch is Rs.12.28 LPA with the highest package of Rs.22.50 LPA. A total of 132 recruiters visited the campus for the final placement season of 2022. Well-reputed companies visit the campus every year, ranging from Salesforce to Nestle. K J Somaiya provides the best of the opportunities in terms of job profiles and packages at well-established firms.

Campus Life

4.5

K J Somaiya has a lush green campus providing various facilities for the overall growth of students. These include a gym, game room, sports equipment, well-equipped library, amphitheater, wi-fi-enabled campus, AC classrooms, hostel facilities, and medical facilities. It organizes a 3-day annual fest named Melange in the month of February every year. The fest is being organized by a separate Melange team along with the members of the student council. It consists of various recreational activities, competitions, and fun DJ nights. The Library of K J Somaiya is no less than a treasure for a bibliophile. It consists of academic books by various authors along with an online edition of research papers and journals. Classrooms are wi-fi enabled and consist of projectors. There are multiple committees run by students and provide opportunities to all. These include marketing, human resource, International business, dance committee, etc.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

There are separate 3 and 2 sharing hostels for boys and girls on campus. Hostels are well equipped with all the basic amenities. One table, chair, almirah, and bed are provided to each student. Girls' hostel rooms are better than boys' hostel rooms. They consist of balconies with a beautiful views. The mess menu consists of 4 meals and is really healthy. It provides a wide variety of dishes. The hostel might seem a bit costly but as compared to Mumbai's expenses and the given facilities, it's amazing. The hostel registration process is pretty easy and the K J portal will provide you with all the relevant details once your candidature gets finalized.

Admission

K J Somaiya accepts CMAT, CAT, GMAT, and NMAT scores, and the cut-off of the same will be released shortly. The application form is available on their website, i.e., simsr.somaiya.edu/en and the last date for form filling is Jan 18, 2023, till 11:59 pm During my selection process, the entire online process went smoothly.

Interview Experience

3.5

The entire online selection process went smoothly. It started with a one-on-one case study analysis, followed by a personal interview round. The case study topics provided a breather to the candidates as they were ranging from topics such as the impact of Covid on OTT Platforms to start-ups. The panel was very polite and understanding. Since I was already enrolled with IMS for my entire MBA entrance preparation, I didn't have to use any other source for my preparation. Their mock GDs were super helpful and provided me with great detail about my strengths and weaknesses.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The most important aspect of curriculum that i thought about before choosing this was they had more practical applications than theoretical teaching like they taught us Photoshop, Microsoft azure, and frequent master classes for Power BI. They prepare us to be job-ready and teachers also inform us about future roles and improvements. The college needs to improve by adding some subjects like operations in curriculum. The exams are conducted in trimester patterns exam in 3 months with CIA in between and 3 trimester in one year.

Placement Experience:

Every year 90% of the students get placed via college and 6.5 is the average package. There is less opportunity for HR and operations domains and the average package of finance domain is much higher than that of marketing. Big four for finance, banks, some FMCG companies and most of the startup visit our college.
