Remarks

As a member of the student body, I will probably be more critical of the University administration than any average student. Overall, however, it has recently approved.

Entrance Preview

I had to take the Common law Admission Test. I secured 133.5/200 and an All India Rank of 173. Law was a natural choice for me as I have always had a knack of practical problem solving. I also had the option of opting for NLU, Delhi and a host of other law schools. However, I preferred NUJS due to a much better placement record, alumni base and reputation.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Our course curriculum is quite comprehensive. The Bar Council of India has mandated a list of 28 subjects which are offered to each student pursuing B.A. LL.B. (Hons.). Successfully completing these courses is mandatory for obtaining a degree. In addition, we have a plethora of a optional subjects to choose from in our third, fourth and fifth years of law school. This is also supplemented by various credit courses wherein various renowned industry leaders and academicians impart practical and nuanced theoretical knowledge of their niche areas. All in all, NUJS offers almost each area of law which has any contemporary relevance.

Internships Opportunities

Our University has a highly successful student-run Recruitment and Placement Committee. Stipend varies based on the specific place that one chooses to intern at and can be anything between zero to eighteen thousand. There is no general average as such. The overall experiences I have had at my various internships over the years have been fulfilling. They have helped me aid my theoretical classroom knowledge with practical understanding of their application. In the field of law, understanding the practical applicability of various procedural and substantive aspects of law is of utmost importance and my internships have aided me in doing so.

Placement Experience

5

The placement record of our college is the best among all law schools in the country with almost 100% placement each year since 2008 (when the third batch graduated). Most students (around 60% of those interested) get placed in one of the seven Tier One law firms of the country which pay upward of 15 lakhs P.A. at joining. Others get recruited by other law firms and companies. It can safely be said that the average salary of an NUJS graduate is around 9-10 lakhs P.A. Overall, NUJS is the best law school in terms of campus recruitment. For instance, an average student such as myself is also hired by Trilegal, New Delhi.

College Events

5

We organise our annual moot court competition in association with one of the biggest law firms in the world - Herbert Smith Freehills and sees participation from all over the country, our annual cultural fest Outlawed featuring famous artisits such as Nucleya, The Local Train, Indian Ocean, Karsh Kale Collectiv, Prateek Kuhad, et al., the biggest law school sports fest Invicta and the biggest Parliamentary Debate and Model United Nations in Eastern India. We celebrate Dandiya Night, Holi, Lohri, Teachers' Day, Annual Day, Ethnic Day and various other events with full festivities.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I'd say NUJS is quite on the expensive side for a Government University admitting students through a highly competitive national level competition. Our fee (2018 batch) is 2.2 lakhs P.A. While first year students (2021 batch) are charged 2.8 lakhs P.A. The fee is high due to inadequate/negligible funding from State and Central Governments.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes, the University provides a special SC/ST scholarship under an MHRD scheme, a merit-cum-means scholarship in addition to funding all scholars mentored by the IDIA.

Campus Life

2.5

The campus life is one of the most fun you can get in any University across the nation. With a relaxed curfew timing and chill environment, it gives you the best of both worlds. The gender ratio is more or less 50:50, with students from at least 20 states in every batch. As mentioned earlier, NUJS prides itself in being a global powerhouse in moot courts and a national arsenal at parliamentary debating. We have a rich culture of student collectivization and sporting excellence too.

Hostel Facilities

4

The mess food is decent with various cusines including South Indian (Idli, Uttapam and Dosa), Continental (burgers, sandwiches), Italian (Pasta), North Indian (Mutter Paneer, Kofta, Chicken Korma), et al. The hostel facilities are decent. However, lately, for boys double-seaters have had to be shared by 3 students during the first years. Most students can easily procure a single room in third year and beyond.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is very strong and strongly connected with their roots and the University. NUJS has a culture of having a strong sense of common spirit and purpose and hence both seniors and alumni are always more than willing to help out their juniors.

Exam Structure

While NUJS provides the best of opportunities when it comes to career growth, it ensures that at no point you have enough time on your hands to pursue your own interests. Our University has a distinction of being one of the global leaders at moot court competitions and a national powerhouse at other co-curricular activities such as parliamentary debating and publishing. It truly promises its students the best of both words.

Admission

The admission process was fairly straight forward. After procuring an eligible rank, we were asked to submit a refundable/adjustable deposition of Rs. 50,000. We had to go report in the University a week before the session commenced and complete the paperwork.

Faculty

4

Our faculty boosts of some of the best in the country. Personally, I have always been proud of the level of classroom discussions and discourse which have honed both my public speaking and critical thinking and help me understand various subjects much better.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I have chosen B.A.LLB(Hons.) because I want to have knowledge of law because laws form the basis of society. Moreover, I had an Arts Background therefore, it was a good combination for me to explore and go according to my desired path of career. The count of faculty members of IILS is an approximation of 20-30 teachers and the students each semester is near about 70-100. The teachers are truly well versed in their respective subjects and they're immensely knowledgeable and friendly, they try hard to make us understand in the easiest manner. But the only problem is that the faculties are not permanent, it keeps on changing. The term examinations were always on time except for the lockdown time but this was also managed smoothly within time. In order to know the difficulties I would share a fact and i.e., when I took admission in my Institute there was a total number of 140 students in my semester but no sooner than the first exam held half of them failed and now we're 70 of us.
