Remarks
I underwent CLAT-UG for my admission where the cut-off was around 125/150. The application process in recent times is very easy due to the availability of the Internet in every home. The candidate needs to search for CLAT-UG and its application process, its date of registration, materials, and examination everything will be mentioned accordingly. Further, the student also needs to be in touch with the important dates that shall be notified timely. I haven't availed any kind of reservation benefits but several benefits in the form of stipend and scholarships are there for the STs and SCs. The improvement that I would suggest is that some special scholarships must be given to the students who obtained more than 80% in Class 12 and an internship cell must be created so that students benefit from them.
Course Curriculum Overview
I have chosen B.A.LLB(Hons.) because I want to have knowledge of law because laws form the basis of society. Moreover, I had an Arts Background therefore, it was a good combination for me to explore and go according to my desired path of career. The count of faculty members of IILS is an approximation of 20-30 teachers and the students each semester is near about 70-100. The teachers are truly well versed in their respective subjects and they're immensely knowledgeable and friendly, they try hard to make us understand in the easiest manner. But the only problem is that the faculties are not permanent, it keeps on changing. The term examinations were always on time except for the lockdown time but this was also managed smoothly within time. In order to know the difficulties I would share a fact and i.e., when I took admission in my Institute there was a total number of 140 students in my semester but no sooner than the first exam held half of them failed and now we're 70 of us.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunity offered by the Adv. Of Supreme Court, National Human Rights Commission, NGOs, Siliguri Police Station, Sikkim Human Rights Commission, Patna High Court, PRS, etc., along with this, the students needs to discover their own internship opportunities from Lawbhoomi and Lawctopus which is really helpful for future purposes. The roles offered are of a Research Assistant or Intern where the students either don't get any stipend initially or stipend depends on the potential of the student. In a particular internship the student becomes aware of many case studies, various judgments, Drafting and pleading, and Litigation which ultimately helps them to adopt new things within them. The internships that I have done have helped me to know new arena of criminal law and its application, also I've learned to make a "Case Commentary", analysis of a case, how should a lawyer behave with his/her clients, level of patience, crucks of a case study, etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure of IILS is Rs.31,500 per semester which is not too less but not too much as well. Certain Scholarships like Kanyashree, ST, and SC benefits are available here. Speaking about the Financial Assistance and Job, no Law colleges provide that because it's not something similar to Engineering or medical, yes, off-campus we can join Adv. Chambers but there are no such particular on-campus Jobs. Highlighting a fact, I would like to mention that faculty members mention about Lawctopus and Lawbhoomi platform which is an extremely awesome platform for the law students to avail quality internships, seminars, Writing Research Papers, Moot Courts, Blogs, and Various other competitions. Therefore, the students need to discover these platforms and the scope provided by them. Even one can avail of paid or unpaid internships which can ultimately be a cherry on the cake of their Resume and I am trying to do the same.
Campus Life
Annual fest and tech fest are conducted in the month of Sep-Nov. When I joined the Institute in 2018 the library had less exposure but recently it has really grown, there are various magazines, SCC Journals, and various Books related to academics and the college has also given access to the online portal of SCC to each and every student without any subscription which is really very helpful. Sports events in the form of competitions are held like Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Football(Outdoor), Career, Table Tennis, Chess, (Indoor), etc., Also other Curriculum activities like Moot Court, SAARC Conclave, Mock Parliament, Intra Colleges Debate, etc, are held time to time for the students to have greater exposure to learning. The students are also engaged in a platform named "IILS QUEST" which is a platform to publish journals, blogs, and Research papers, also there is a Newsflash run by the students of this institute where news in 4 different languages is dictated to people's convenience.
