NIT Hamirpur, like other NITs, takes admissions by jossa counselling, on the basis of jee mains rank. JEE Mains exam is conducted by NTA till 2021. The previous year's cutoff is around 16000 for Mathematics and computing branches. For CSE you need to have a rank under 10000 in JEE Mains.

I chose this course as I was interested in computer science, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Students' teacher ratio is almost 50:1. Teachers are average(neither too good nor too bad), but they are all PHDs. In every semester, two main exams happen, one is mid-semester and the other is at the end semester. Mid-semester is somehow easy but the end semester is quite tough.

Internship offers are available from 3rd year. But getting an internship is very difficult here. Most internship offers are from out campus. Students have to learn skills for getting internships. DSA and other developments (web development or android development) are required for the internship.

Placements are mainly offered in the 4th year. Companies start to approach students in the 7th semester. Students get internship offers in 3rd year (by 5th semester). Paytm, Amazon, Infosys, IBM, Qualcomm, and Samsung are major companies which come to campus for placement. But the no of companies coming for placement is not sufficient. The highest package offered is generally above 1 Cr. But the average is somewhere around 7-8 lakh per year. Most of the students in CSE and ECE are placed (MNC is a new branch so data regarding this is unavailable). Placements in other branch are not good.

The fee in NITH is almost the same as other NITs. It is around 76000 per semester. There is a fee concession of 66 per cent in tuition fees for students with a family income of fewer than 5 lakhs. Students with a family income of less than 1 lakh income get a full waiver in tuition fees. SC/ST students also get a full waiver in tuition fees.

In this college, two annual fests happen per year i.e Nimbus and Hill fairs. Nimbus mainly happens in April and Hillfair happens in November. This college has a big modern library. Books can be rendered automatically(with the help of machines). Most of the major journals and books are available here. You can get daily newspapers and magazines. Classrooms are not so comfortable. Sports facilities are ordinary. There is only one ground here. All kind of outdoor games is played only here. Badminton and table tennis court facilities are available in each hostel. There is various kind of clubs. Music club, dance club, and drama club are very active here and they organise various kinds of events regularly. There are many technical clubs also here. These club conducts various workshops and create a kind of awareness among students.

Here students are provided with beds, tables and chairs in the rooms. Rooms in some hostels are very comfortable while some hostel rooms are congested. Food quality is average and it also depends on the hostels. Registration in hostels is very easy. Most rooms are 4 seaters while some are 3 seaters. Third and fourth-year students get 2 and 1 seater rooms respectively. The locality is not well enough if someone tries to rent a room or PG.
