Engineering at RGIT Mumbai

The admission process was pretty smooth for me. I received admission to RGIT through the CAP allotment of the MH-CET examination. After freezing the seat on the CAP portal, you have to visit the college and they will give you a list of documents you need to submit along with the fees you have to pay. Since the admission took place through CAP, there were no bumps in the road. If you are a category student, the fees are substantially reduced. However, you need to show the proper documentation. I my opinion you should have no difficulty during the admission process. The cutoff of each department varies. You can check the cutoff of the college's website for your preferred department.

My UG major is mechanical engineering and I choose it taking into account my futuristic goals. The mechanical department is considered to be the best department at RGIT. We have around 6-7 technical committees to choose from. About 90% of the faculty holds a Master's degree and 70% have also received their doctorate. Every teacher has a unique way of teaching and each manages to capture the student's attention and explain complex theories in layman's terms. The faculty-to-student ratio is around 5:1. There are two midterm tests conducted each semester and they are easy to pass given you have studied the topics.

Companies don't visit the campus for internships. They visit for placements only. However, teachers regularly give us information on internship opportunities available. You can also land internships if you are a part of a technical committee.

RGIT provides campus placements for every department. Students are eligible for campus placements after the sixth semester. MNCs such as Wipro, Accenture, Deloitte, Worley, and Tech Mahindra have visited the campus. The number of students being selected varies from company to company. Back in 2018, a Japanese company offered a 20LPA package to a mechanical engineering student. Half of the students take part in placements and the other half prepare for higher studies. I'm yet to decide whether to sit for placements or go for higher studies.

The fees for Open students are around 124,000 yearly. For category students, there are scholarships provided by the state. They have to fill out the scholarship form on the MAHADBT website. The college will guide the students in filling out the form.

Life at the campus is super awesome. There are two annual fests. The Technical fest-Icarus and cultural fest-Zodiac held in March. Each department has different Technical groups. There is a social club called SOCH which is driven to help society in any way they can. You can find a plethora of books in the library corresponding to your course. The sports committee holds tournaments throughout the year of cricket, football, badminton, and kabaddi to name a few. The college has its cricket and football team which participates in inter-college tournaments.
