KJSCE, BE, Mechanical Engineering

Remarks

The college management is excellent. Initially in 2009 the college management was a bit struggling under the principal Megha Dixit, however Ms Subha Pandit took over the post and has improved the college functions a lot. From infrastructure to students personality development a lot has been done for the betterment of students.

Entrance Preview

I am born and brought up in Mumbai. Examination given MH-CET for Engineering in 2009 and scored 144/200. The entrance examination marks were not at par for me to get into a good college for Mechanical Engineering. However, KJSCE had a gujarati minority and I had applied in KJSCE with gujarati minority and got admission. KJSCE ranked amongst top 5 colleges at that time.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course structure was good and well planned but it was not focused on research. it was more theory based. Applications of those theory and practical know-how was not up to mark. We also had subjects like Environment Science, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics which helped us understand different fields.

Internships Opportunities

No,back then in 2009 K. J. Somaiya college of Engineering did not provide internship to anybody. However, those who wanted to apply for internship could do it by getting in touch with the Placement cell.

Placement Experience

4.5

The placement committee was superb. The placement officer was a one man army who handled everything is an organised way. The college was not only able to call the giant MNC's like L&T-HED, Godrej, Aker Solutions etc which gave a standard package of about 3 lakhs per annum, but also managed to call dream companies like Hafele, Weatherford etc. which gave packages of 10 lakhs per annum. This is specific to Mechanical engineering. For IT and electronics, there were companies like TCS, Accenture, American Bank, Microsoft etc.

College Events

4.5

The college basically has two major festivals. A technical Festival called Abhiyantriki. its a national level tech fest were people from all over the country come to participate in various technical events designed by the college committees. Another major festival in Symphony which is our cultural festival. This is also a national level festival where students participate and compete in various events like dance, music, fashion show and it ends with the famous DJ nite filled with bollywood superstars. Apart from this, we have departmental festivals. Mechanical Departmental festival is called IMPULSE. The students of mechanical department conduct this festival.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Back then in 2009 when I took admission, the fee structure was feasible and acceptable. However, there was a huge rise in fees in the second year and post that every year there was an increase in fees which made the complete course very expensive. In 1st year we had paid about 70,000/- fees, however in the 4th year our fees was about 1,20,000/- very close to double.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships were available. I had received Jain minority scholarship for two years from DTE. Apart from this, Narotam sekhsaria scholarship was awarded to few students based on merit. Loan: back then college dint have any tie up with banks or private companies to provide loan.

Campus Life

4.5

KJSCE has the best campus in Mumbai. With facilities like Tennis court, international level jogging track, cricket ground, football ground. etc also indoor games like badminton and carrom. The gender ratio is pretty equal.(However in Mechanical Engineering there were hardly any girls, in my class of 60 there were 6/7 gals only.) Students from all over the country had taken admission however most of them were from Mumbai. Freshers party, BE farewell , dance group, fashion show group, arts group, Our own band, etc are few glimpse of the campus life.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Since I am born and brought up in Mumbai, I did not avail the hostel and mess facility so i cannot comment on this for 250 characters. However, the college had its own canteen which was superb and had the best food you'll get in entire campus. The KJ Somaiya campus has many colleges like commerce, manangement , science , engineering etc. but students from all over used to come and eat in the engineering canteen.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors are very helpful and were easily approachable. The alumni network at that time was weak however the college had started connecting alumni's. From 2013 there has been an annual meet arranged by college for Alumni. Few of the Alumni had also come for recruitment in the college.

Exam Structure

The exam structure was decided by the Mumbai University. It was not very hectic. Except the viva part where the external examiner made the day bad. The labs are well equipped and regularly maintained. For heavy mechanical machines an operator/assistant was always available to conduct experiments during exams.

Admission

I had applied through gujarati quota. We had to fill a separate form (other than the CAP round conducted by MH-CET). And provide a gujarati minority certificate. After the application , merit list was out and based on merit list we were called in College to select the course. I was lucky to get Mechanical Engineering as the seat were filling up fast.

Faculty

4

The faculty is great. Most of the professors had completed their M. Tech. Few professors were pursing PhD and few of them had completed PhD. They had good academic knowledge. They were always ready to help and co-operative. Easy to approach and friendly.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Soo ever since kid i was interested in bikes this interest was all for me to take this course , my father is very bike enthusiast and it came down to me , i could easily take mechanical and other engineering cause these are common courses which involves automobile , but since i wanted to follow my passion , i wanted to do specialization in automobile itself and DPCOE was offering this course with great facilities and knowledge providing us a path in this lane of career in this field. According to me curriculum prepares us quite well as they conduct workshop which are relevant to outside world where we'll be working. If there were more practical workshops for us to work on would be great cause automobile engineering is all about practicals rather than theoroticals Professor should try teaching in physical part rather than taking lectures and explaining the concept by just words

Yes there is placement cell of STES which is no different than other tier 3 engineering colleges offering a tier 3 average package depending on who is the recruiter. Students become eligible for campus from 3rd year of their degree. Highest package is something around 55 lakhs offered to a computer engineering student, and average is just like I said for a tier 3 college 5-6 lakhs(above or below). Almost everyone gets placed in the company but some might not.
