Remarks
The college management did not show concern towards the students of the college. All requests made to administration were ignored. To get a simple thing done, a student would have to travel around campus and meet and convince 20 people.
Entrance Preview
I gave All India Engineering Entrance Examination(AIEEE) where i scored 116 marks resulting in a rank of 206 in state and 60335 AIR. I opted for the college because it was close to home and an NIT.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is partially useful. Most of the subjects in the first year are not useful as per the branch. Even though I had Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) i still had to learn Engineering Drawing, Machine Drawing, Workshops etc, which I had no use of in the future. Also the course is mostly about cramming and very little practical knowledge is gained in the tenure.
Internships Opportunities
As far as I am aware there was no Internship and no stipend for the B.Tech. students. Maybe something like that was provided for the Masters or Doctoral candidates. Even our post 5th semester training was done on our own expense and during our winter break.
Placement Experience
The placements at the college are good because the college has almost zero effort in the process. There were 4 students per branch appointed as CRCs who would contact the HRs of various companies. Even after that the placement cell of the college used to interfere with the process.
College Events
There were very few events in the college. There was the fresher's party, farewell, annual day and tech-fest. The students were responsible for making all arrangements and decorations. The budget was never approved to its actual value and interference was there by the college administration.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Fee structure was manageable. It was close to 35000 every semester including mess and hostel charges. But due to the quality of the mess there was an overhead of 4k-5k per month. Also the books in the library were outdated and only 3 could be issued causing another overhead of books.
Fees and Financial Aid
As far as I am aware there was no scholarship offered at our college. There might have been for doctoral or masters candidates but none for B.Tech. students.
Campus Life
The campus life was decent. We used to move around till 10PM and no one stopped us but the gate timing was 8PM. The girls were not allowed to be outside the hostel post 7PM. There was intolerance towards parties in the dorms. The diversity is only said of. There are mostly males in the institute including faculty members. The bias towards religion was obvious.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel and mess were sub-par. The hostels were poorly maintained. There was no regular painting. The toilets were broken and not maintained. The showers didn't work and some of the water heaters were broken or defective. We were not allowed heaters in our room. The mess food was barely edible. The workers gave no response to our request of improving food quality.
Alumni/Alumna
While i was serving my tenure at the institute, there was no alumni network page. One has been created now but we used Facebook to track and talk to alumni of the college.
Exam Structure
Exam structure is very hectic for the minors(Mid Terms). There are two exams a day and not a single day off in between. Some part of the syllabus is not discussed in class (close to 3 chapters) and that also comes in the exams. Even in the majors(Final Term) the no of days given to prepare is sometimes very little.
Admission
The process for Interpol recruitment might have been easier. The admission process is very long, tiresome and hectic. The red tape does not make it easy. There are multiple forms to fill like library form, department form, mess form, hostel form etc. There are multiple affidavits to be signed, medical tests and much more. And most of these repeat after every semester.
Faculty
The faculty is decent but not good. MOST OF THE TEACHERS are biased towards the locality of Kashmir. Those students have the advantage of easy marks given by the teachers. On the other hand, the non-locals get strict marking and no grace marks. Some teachers just recite the books in class as opposed to discussing the subject matter. The Most Annoying thing for me was that some of the teachers used to preach Islam in class when there were free time and atheists were frowned upon. Some of the teachers are separatists.
