Remarks

IIT Bombay ranks in the top 250 in all of Asia among the top 12 IITs in the world. It was also ranked 172nd as the best engineering college in the World. Known for its renowned alumnus and quality of education, I chose IIT Bombay as my college for undergraduate engineering. I filled out the online form from the web portal of the university and entered the details required. The cutoff for this college was really narrow being 66 for males and 248 for females in the general category. However, scheduled and reserved castes can have the benefit of higher cut-offs. After being shortlisted seeing the JEE Mains and JEE advanced rankings, I was called by an executive to pay the admission fees and attend the counseling session to understand the protocols of the college. They even explained the flow of the syllabus and about the extracurricular activities here. We were even made aware of the placement records and internship opportunities here. I interacted with the internal faculty and managerial staff before deciding to finally secure my admission here.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

Computer science is one of the most sought-after courses in the present world careers. IIT Bombay has one of the most dynamic courses with excellent live projects to get hands-on programming languages and learn how to apply them. The syllabus has modules like Computer programming and utilization, Abstractions and paradigms for programming, discrete structures, switching theory, and logic design, formal methods in CS, automata theory and logic, data structures and algorithms, numerical computation, design and analysis of algorithms, computer networks, computer architecture, probability, and random signal theory, introduction to embedded systems, business information systems, etc. After almost every module, we had live quizzes and interactive sessions to solve our doubts followed by projects to carry out in individual or groups. The faculty has been extremely supportive here. The ratio of professor to student was 12:1.

Placement Experience

5

IIT Bombay has a separate placement cell that automates the placements by sending invitations to companies and organizations to conduct campus interviews and recruit the personnel for their requirements. During my year of study, my batch received a total of 1723 placement offers. 45 international offers were made from different countries. 248 pre placement offers were also made to students in the tenure of their internships and summer programs. The highest international package offered was 2.1 crore per annum and the highest domestic package was 1 crore per annum. The average package offered was 25 lakh per annum. The international countries participating in the placement drive were the USA, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Netherlands. The recruiting companies included Uber, Ruberik, Blackstone, Honeywell, ISRO, Airbus, Millenium, etc. Most of the placements were bagged in the sector of Aerospace and chemistry. And the rest were in the sectors like computer science, electrical, mechanical, etc. IIT Bombay had a USP for excellent placement and human resources and it was served to well-deserving candidates.

Fees and Financial Aid

Students from IIT Bombay go for 3 kinds of scholarships namely institute scholarships, private scholarships, and government grants. The institute provides financial aids like merit-cum-means scholarships, free messing, and dual degrees. Students with family income upto one lakh are given a fee exemption of tuition fee payment along with a scholarship of 40000 per year. Students with a family income Between 1lakh to 3lakhs are given a fee exemption along with a scholarship of Rs 30000 per year. And students with family income above 3 lakhs upto 5 lakhs, are given a fee exemption along with a scholarship of Rs 20000 per year. The merit criterion will be according to their JEE Rankings and high school grades. Students not eligible for the scholarship can go for students loans with low-interest rates and later pay after the placement.

Campus Life

5

IIT Bombay has one of the most beautiful campuses set up in 1958 with assistance from UNESCO and the Soviet union. It is one of the most competitive colleges and is known for passing out talented alumni throughout the world. But along with the premium academics that it provides, it is also known for the candidates having the best university life full of co-curricular and fun activities. The campus houses over 200 species of birds like Indian hornbill, Rufous Woodpecker, and Oriental Darter. It has 2 swimming pools, and grounds for football, hockey and cricket grounds, and courts like tennis, basketball, squash, and volleyball. Techfest is the annual fest of IIT Bombay and is Asia's largest technology festival. Mood Indigo is the annual cultural festival and is also Asia's largest cultural festival. Apart from that, the campus houses the music club and the alliance club for cultural activities.
