Remarks

The eligibilty to pursue B.Sc. in Zoology (Major) from IGNOU is 10+2 in Science or equivalent. The application forms are readily available on the university's official website ( ignou.ac.in ). The registration for the January cycle starts from January every year and ends on 31 January.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I opted the course because I wanted to pursue pure sciences, with a special interest in animal biology. IGNOU, being a UGC approved central university allowed me to pursue my degree along with other interests. The students are alloted specific study centres where they are taught by the respective professors of the selected college. Depending on the chosen college as the study centre, the professors ensure to impart the best knowledge and skills to the candidates with respect to the student: teacher ratio. The term exams are conducted yearly and the submission of assignments takes place every six months.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

I did not opt for internship opportnities availed by the university but pursued internships in various other NGOs as I wanted to embark a career in the social services sector. The sole limitation of the internships offered was that various organisations, were majorly from the private sector with a less emphasis on the social sector such as NGOs.

Placement Experience

2.5

IGNOU runs campus placement drives at the end of the programme academic year with the possibility of securing a job. However, I had participated in various internships through my peer network, outside of the prospects offered by the university.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total programme fees is nearly INR 10,000, which is to be paid about INR 4,000 annually. The university provides students the opportunity for campus placements. IGNOU notifies the students about such prospects and assure that opportunities are availed to the candidates.

Campus Life

2.5

The campus is the selected study centre that the student has opted for. Life at the campus depends on the selected study centre. It is necessary to choose the study centres wisely as this will largely impact their college experience. Further to this, IGNOU has a central library at its own campus with excellent academic resources to benefit the students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum for the Bachelor of Science General is decent but surely needs to be improved in terms of including relevant technological developments. The course can include more practical activities, majorly inside the laboratory for a better understanding of complex science concepts. The frequency of exams are comfortable and give ample time to students to prepare for their exams. Exam diffculty range between moderate to difficult, and easy at times.

For statistics IT companies like Dell, Wirpo and others have job offers and roles. 4-5 lakhs is what we were offered and get easily too. For a student getting graduated in just 60k, getting 10x of it as initial placement, nothing more can be asked for.

Honestly I know Zoology course placements aren't much. It's a research based course and therefore if we are hired by some researchers we might get a job worth 30-40k in hand. However, for other courses the placements at our college are great.
