Remarks

NIT Durgapur is recognized as an Institute of National Importance. Located in the city of Durgapur, the Institute is at a distance of about 160 km from Kolkata. The NIT tag itself is very valuable. The admission process was entirely through the online mode through the JoSAA Counselling and CSAB Special Round based on JEE Main rank. In the JoSAA counselling, a candidate needs to fill an order of preference for the courses in every college. There are two mock rounds for candidates to understand how this system of choice filling works. These are followed by six seat allocation rounds which are followed by the CSAB Special Round as some candidates don't occupy the seats which had been allotted to them or are unable to submit the documents needed. The online process makes it quite comfortable for the students. Due to the raging pandemic, the students were needed to only submit some details on the portal of the college for confirming their seats. After verification of the documents, the admission is approved. I had extensively used Collegedunia's website while selecting this college

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I'm a Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) undergrad. CSE is a quite versatile branch that not only promises numerous opportunities but also involves a plethora of topics that an individual should know. CSE in NIT Durgapur is a top-notch option. Like every other college, there are some great faculty whom the students admire. The curriculum is according to the current trend like in other colleges. There are three exams conducted in a semester which aren't much of an issue if one pays attention in classes. The faculty strength of the CSE department is 32 and the faculty-student ratio is 4:25, which is pretty good. The faculties here are highly qualified, most of them have completed their PhD from highly esteemed colleges and their teaching methods are quite good.

Placement Experience

4.5

The placements and job opportunities are as good as other top NITs. A number of reputed companies and organizations like Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo and JP Morgan come and offer placements and job opportunities. Students can sit for job opportunities from the 6th or 7th semester. The placement percentage for CSE is around 87%. As numerous students also opt for higher studies directly after graduating, the placement percentage taking all branches is about 75%. The highest package offered is 43 LPA, while the average hovers around 11-12 LPA. I might go for higher studies after the completion of my bachelor's degree.

College Events

4

The overall life at the campus is great. There are a plethora clubs in the college that are quite active and pledge to make life in the campus a more competitive and happier one instilling necessary qualities in the students which come in handy after graduation. The clubs cover a range of domains catering to all kinds of interests. Some of them are Literary Circle, QuizInc, Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), GNU/LINUX Users' Group, Recursion - a club dedicated to promoting the coding culture in the college, Maths n' Tech Club and SPIC MACAY - a club which upholds and promotes intangible aspects of Indian cultural heritage. Aarohan is the annual techno-management of our college which witnesses participation from all over the country. The classrooms in the college are quite specious. There is a Sports and Activity Center, two large fields, basketball courts, tennis court, and a gymnasium. The hostel rooms aren't great but the food is decent. A library with a good number of books resides in the college which are helpful for the students in both the course they are pursuing and in the preparation for future competitive examinations. NIT Durgapur can offer students the best 4-5 years of their life inculcating the necessary skills.

Campus Life

5

The infrastructure in the college has seen several developments in the past years. There's a modern central library with lakhs of documents, books, periodicals and journals. In addition to that, each department has its own library. The laboratories are quite well equipped with the necessary modern facilities and instruments.

Admission

Nope. There weren't any such procedures for admission. After the counselling, the candidates were required to just submit their documents and fill in the necessary details on the college's portal for verification.

college placements are good in this college with a number of good financial and consultancy firms coming in with new gen companies as well in the service and sales industry. moreoever getting a good placement in a top financial or consultancy placement requires a POR in a good society as a criteria, its not really required but adds to your chances of getting it. moreover you require to participate in a number of case study competitions for the same as well. my plans after graduation is probably working for a year or two after which i plan on doing my MBA. around 50-60% who apply get a placement.
