Exploring my interests and talents along with my engineering degree

Pondicherry Engineering College is a government Engineering college located in Pondicherry. The first step of admission process was applying for the courses in CENTAC. After that, three counsellings will happen where you can choose a course according to your cut off marks that you got in your 12th grade. But initially I didn't get PEC in first counselling instead I got a seat in Sri Manakula Vinayagar college(SMVEC) for the computer science department branch. But I was not interested to join SMVEC, so I waited for second counselling hoping to get a seat in PEC. Then they called me in person for 2nd counselling. When I get in there, I actually got a seat in Electronics and Instrumentation department in Pondicherry engineering college(PEC), that too I got that seat in General quota eventhough I am not a general category. My cut off mark was 178.2 out of 200.

I chose Electronics and Instrumentation department (EIE) in Pondicherry Engineering College because I got to know about this branch for first time from my sister's friend, who was a passed out batch from the same department. She said that this particular Branch in engineering is very good and also it includes both electronically and software related subject. Also you have a great chance to get placements in both your core company and software company. Faculties in here are very good and they also completed their PG in their respective subjects. Especially my department is strict and the faculties takes classes in time. They are professionals with more knowledge. For semester exams, for a year there will be 2 semester exams. In first year of engineering, you will get subjects from mechanical department, which is bit difficult for me to understand at first since the subject consists only drawings. But when you understand the concept it is pretty easy.

Many Internship opportunities are provided by our college. There is a 3 month or 6 month internship course, that was offered in Atal incubation inside our college but without stipend. Also I have done an internship from mechanical department without stipend. Also many opportunities came with stipend, but I was not interested to do.

For campus placements, from 6th semester onwards, the students are eligible to attend campus placements. Also, more and more trainings for aptitude tests and coding rounds are conducted continuously for the campus tests from TNP. They also provide trainings for particular companies. Many companies come every year to our college. The offer I got was in TCS company. The CGPA's of students to eligible for placements can be from 6.5 and more, depending upon the requirement of that particular company.

Here the college fees for every year is pretty acceptable since it is a government college. Also the students from poor background can apply for scholarships in our college. The college provides free scholarships for the students with poor background. But I am not sure with the scholarship names since I haven't applied any. Finally coming to my job campus placement, I got placed in TCS company this year 2021. Eventhough I am from Electronics and Instrumentation department, I can apply for both core company as well as software company.

College like PEC is great way to explore our talents and knowledge. Not only education, along with that they also conduct so many seminars, cultural fests, hackathon, so many events.. I don't remember many events. There will be pecofes, department program events, freshers for juniors, farewell for seniors. Not only this... They have sports club, womens club, english literature clubs, and so many. Sports are also conducted and they provide many prizes for winners and participants. For our reference, the books can be taken free from college library.
