My experience with IIM Sirmaur so far

I applied for IIM Rohtak and all the IIMs under CAP. For IIM Rohtak, my name was on the waiting list, hence couldn't wait that long for it. For IIM Raipur, the waiting no. was around 1000 so, the chances were very slim and almost negligible. For IIM Udaipur, I didn't get shortlisted. For IIM Trichy, I was on the waitlist but couldn't make it through. My real dilemma was between IIM Sirmaur and IIM Jammu, as I had received an admission offer from both the college, but in the end, I chose IIM Sirmaur over IIM Jammu because it's marginally older than IIM Jammu and have a better average CTC. I availed NC-OBC quota for the admission process and also in the CAT examination. The minimum criteria for admission were 50% or more in graduation and 70% or more in CAT. The admission process was online, the interview was conducted by two members for all the IIMs under CAP. The question consisted of personal introduction, ambition, and then some technical questions related to undergraduate & some general awareness ones.

Term exams are very fast approaching and time management is the key quality needed in exams as questions are tricky and lengthy. The exams are moderately difficult but if one pays enough attention during classes then passing the exams is not difficult. However if one wants to top the charts in exams, they need to keep studying every day thoroughly and try to solve questions from reference books.

The average stipend offered in the summer internships was 42,328 Rs, and the highest stipend was 1,70,000 Rs. More than 70 companies participated in the campus summer internship placements. ICICI Bank, DCM Shriram, DSM, DRDO, Power Grid Corporation of India, TATA AIG, Niswey, TechMahindra, Kalandri Capital, etc. 66% of the SIP were for Sales and Marketing, 11% for Finance, 11% for General Management, 3% for HR and 3% for Operations and Supply Chain.

For the SIP, the students become eligible after mid semesters is over. For Final Placement, 132 companies participated for 2020-21; out of 112 students, 100 got placed, one went for entrepreneurship, and 11 opted out. Companies that participated and offered were ICICI Prudential, ICICI Bank, Infosys, EY, DCM Shriram, Aditya Birla Capital, Tech Mahindra, HDFC Bank, Collegedunia, IndiaMart, Byjus, etc. The highest package offered was 16 Lakhs per annum, and the average package was 11.2 - 12.4 Lakhs per annum. 89.3% of students got placed. I plan to apply for a suitable job role from the campus itself and grow my career with the company's growth.

The fees structure is very well detailed and during the COVID period, we also got our hostel fees rebate for not using hostels. Cost of study is also affordable as Grammarly subscription and Harvard case studies/simulations are given by college free of cost. There is a scholarship program for SC and ST students. There are a lot of unpaid Live Projects, Summer internships with an average of 25,000 Rs stipend.

Sierra is the annual fest organized at IIM Sirmaur around February. Sierra is a management, cultural and sports fest. The campus has a separate Library and has online access to many Harvard Business school case studies. Classrooms have a projector setup, charging ports on each desk for the laptops. Sports activities are held at both inter as well as intra college levels. With the online classes going on, the sports committee also organizes online tournaments of Chess, Ludo, BGMI, COD, CS GO, and PES. TEDx is also organized on the campus as well as online. Most of the clubs and committees are run by students. The clubs and committees have a youtube channel, Instagram profiles, LinkedIn profiles as well as Facebook pages.

IIM Sirmaur currently operates from a temporary campus, and all the rooms are twin sharing. Now there are four hostel buildings, among which two are on permanent campus, which is 1.5 km away from the temporary campus. Each student will have a separate bed, almirah, study table, and bookrack. The whole hostel has a high-speed wifi facility for students. The mess facility provides both vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisines. Mess facility also has common TV for recreational purposes. IIM Sirmaur provides residential programs; hence one is not allowed to rent a room or PG.
