Remarks
I applied to Meghnad Saha Institute Of Technology but opted for St . Thomas' College Of Engineering & Technology because here the review for faculty and placements were better. For admission at STCET a student needs to have JEE Mains rank or WBJEE rank. The number of seats for Computer Science Engineering usually fills up within 11000 WBJEE rank. On the day of admission one has to carry their rank marksheet, class 12 marksheet photocopy, class 10 marksheet photocopy, counselling sheet, coloured passport sized photographs. Rs. 40,000 has to be paid for admission fees.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is a little outdated but overall Computer Science Engineering has a lot of prospects both in terms of getting jobs and higher studies. The faculty to student ratio is 1:70. Most of the faculty members have M.tech degrees with some having Ph.D. in their respective fields. The faculty members are really good. Each semester has two internal exams before the final semester practical and theory exams. The internal exams are moderate in difficulty.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible to sit for placements after 6th semester. Companies namely Cognizant, NRIFT, Infosys, Indusnet Technologies, ITC Infotech, etc visit for on campus hiring. The average package is around 3 to 4 lpa and the highest package is 8 lpa. About 80 % students get placed and many also opt for higher studies. My plan is to sit for GATE exam.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for each semester are between Rs 40000 and Rs 45000. A few companies visit for on campus placements like Cognizant, Infosys, Nomura Researh Institute Financial Technologies. The number of students getting getting is very high here.
Campus Life
An annual tech fest is held around the month of February or March and a grand farewell is held for the outgoing students. The college has a great library with lots of books. The library also has provisions for students to use computers with internet connection. Students are given books for the entire semester. The classrooms are very spacious. There are projectors in every classroom. Sports is a very important factor at STCET. STCET has a huge ground. Each department has its own football and cricket teams and football and cricket tournaments are held every year at the college ground. Every other year a sports meet is held where all students can participate. There are many social groups that students can join like the entrepreneurship development cells.
