Entrance Preview

From 2016, FET JMI started accepting JEE Main Scores as a criteria for admission. I took the JEE Main and scored 176. I opted for Jamia Millia Islamia since its a Central University and also because I got the stream of my desire- Computer Engineering.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum requires you to study every course that you would ever require in your engineering. The focus is though less research, more rote. First year subjects include Basics of Mechanical Engineering (BME), Engineering Drawing (ED), Mechanical Workshop practice, Basics of Civil Engineering (BCE) etc. Though you won't be required to study all at once - different group of sections study only half of it per semester.

Internships Opportunities

FET JMI does not provide internships. You can still get them off-campus though. The JMI tag would definitely help you get hold of some good internships off campus.

Placement Experience

3.5

Placements in Computer Engineering (COE) are good, if not excellent. Over 90+ offers are received every year for a batch of just 70. Domestic packages as high as 15 l have been given ( Snapdeal) to COE students. Adobe ( 11.5 l) is also a regular on the campus. Though other core branches do not boast of the same record. Though packages as high as 15 l have been given to students of Mechanical Engineering(ME), dequate number of offers are not received. Branches like ECE and EE also face a similar shortage.

College Events

3.5

JMI is not a college of fests. As the atmosphere is academic oriented, so don't come expecting to see DU-styled concerts or larger than life fests. Though a lot of smaller fests are organised by College societies ( such as IEEE, CSI). For example, Encomium is am annual technical fest organised by IEEE JMI. Algo Rhythm is the annual festival of CSI JMI.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since JMI is a central university, therefore, there's no dearth of funds. Thus, it translates to a very low annual fees for its students. For B.Tech course (first year) it's about 10,000 for the whole year. No additional charges are billed to you throughout the year.

Campus Life

4

Campus is clean, green and well maintained. Though FET is smallish ( about 45 acres), it still houses all the important buildings including a library, reading room and auditorium. Gender Ratio is about 1:7, which is not bad at all. A lot of cultural societies operate in JMI. Though my application for the same was not responded so can't give too much info on it.

Hostel Facilities

4

Hostel seats are extremely limited and only a lucky few manage to get it. A two-way process, that includes a personal interview round is followed before hostel allotment is done. Economically weaker sections are given preference in hostel allotment. Hostel charges are approximately 30,000/ year ( including the mess).

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network of JMI is humongous to say the least. Recently, JMI has also started making efforts to get the network go online. Seniors are moderately helpful and no sense of superiority is there in them. JMI is a ragging free campus due to this attitude of theirs. My interaction with seniors was a very pleasant affair.

Exam Structure

Exams consist of the following : First Mid Semester, Second Mid Semester and finally the End Semester. Mid semester last for about 3-4 days while the end semester would last for upto 20-25 days. Lab exams last for another 3-4 days depending on your subjects. Exams are so designed as to be not hectic on you. Physics and chemistry lab exams, for example, are pretty chilled-out affairs and labs like Language lab, Mechanical Workshop are like walk in the park.

Faculty

4

Faculty is highly qualified with many Professors assigned to you from first year itself. Nearly all of them have numerous research papers to their credit and command a good understanding of their subject. Though not all of them are necessarily "good teachers". Some just teach to complete the syllabus and this means that they will complete topics at breakneck speeds.

Placement Experience:

The annual placements at NIT Delhi are consistently getting better year by year where the top branches such as CSE, ECE, and IT are leading the way with their strong placement rates. Many students get hired at very attractive salaries by well-established companies like TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, Microsoft, and Amazon. For example, the CTC of the best offers have reached as high as ?15–20 LPA in some instances. The Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical branches also contribute to the university’s overall placement record to some extent. Those students usually boost the available opportunities for themselves by taking up internships and off-campus offers. Moreover, the students who fail to get a job on the campus can still benefit out of the college atmosphere where the strong basics of coding, projects, and practical skills are taught which makes the students quite employable at startups, off-campus, or even when going for higher studies like M.Tech/GATE/abroad. To sum up, NIT Delhi is a very solid foundation for the students whether they want to have a career or continue with their education.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is relevant and comprehensive, with practical modules and industry-focused content that influenced my choice. It effectively bridges academic knowledge with real-world applications. However, adding more case studies and interdisciplinary approaches could enhance learning. Exams are well-timed but could better assess critical thinking. Teaching methods would benefit from integrating more interactive and hands-on sessions.
