Remarks
The admission process was really very smooth. Everything was very well explained. I had applied to the Institute of Chemical Technology, Matunga, Dwarkadas Sanghvi College of Engineering, Mumbai & Thadomal Shahani Engineering College, Mumbai. I chose Datta Meghe College of Engineering as I stay in Mulund. As I belong to General Category, I didn't avail myself of any quota for admission. I chose Chemical Engineering Program. The minimum criteria for admission to the program are 1. Minimum 50% aggregate in PCM/PMCS in 10+2 or equivalent 2. Must include Mathematics as a subject in 10+2 or equivalent. The admissions are occurring via two methods, 1. Via All India Quota through JEE MAIN 2. Via State Level Quota through MH-CET. I secured my admission through All India Quota as I scored 82.3 percentile in JEE MAIN 2019. The scores vary widely from category to category, the minimum you need to score if you are a General Category student is 70 percentile in JEE MAIN.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Chemical Engineering Program since I was more inclined towards Process-related companies/factories. Faculty to student ratio is quite good with 1:12 faculty: student ratio. Teachers here are so cool and friendly that you can even spend an entire day with them without getting bored. 85% of all the faculties hold a Ph.D. degree and they have on an average 10-11 years of teaching experience. Most of the faculties here teach a practical approach and also some life lessons when needed. I absolutely love every faculty here.
Internships Opportunities
The college provides Internship opportunities to students on regular basis. Chemical Department has signed MOU with Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers, Chembur, and many other companies as well. They do not provide a stipend for the same. Also, the college encourages students to get internships off-campus too and if you have an internship offer, the college department won't hesitate to give permission for the same.
Placement Experience
The placements here are on an average scale I would say. It all depends on students as well. Students need to grab every opportunity they get while they are in college. Students become eligible from the 7th semester for campus placements. Many companies visit Chemical Department such as Toyo Engineering, Technimont, some start-ups as well. On average, 40% of students were placed from Chemical Engineering Department.
Fees and Financial Aid
Since the college is affiliated with the University of Mumbai, all the fees hike policy is indirectly related to the University of Mumbai. The fee for General Category is 97908; for the OBC Category, it's 55307 & for the SC category, it's 12706. The tuition fee for TWFS is completely waived off. The scholarships provided by the Government of Maharashtra are available in the college too.
Campus Life
The annual fest of Datta Meghe College of Engineering is MILESTONE. We even have Tech Fest which is TECHNITUDE. We recently conducted TECHNITUDE online due to pandemic restrictions. We celebrated it with great enthusiasm. Normally, MILESTONE is conducted in the month of February/March every year. Talking about the Library, it's HUGE. We have lots & lots of books in the library including technical as well as non-technical books. The classrooms are huge with all the necessary facilities required for quality teaching. The faculties always motivate us to participate in extracurricular activities, sports, and co-curricular activities as well. We have different students' wings such as NSS, E-Cell, SOChE, CSI, CodeChef, GITS, FOMES, GDSC & many more.
