Remarks

I applied for several colleges in Kolkata including Victoria College, Bethune College, Bidhannagar College, and several others, however as I was interested in doing my bachelor and masters in Geography, East Calcutta Girls College had a great geography department as researched and got information from others, and also they have a GIS remote sensing programme for Geography students which also attracted me to join this college. The admission criteria for Bachelors was 60-70% minimum marks in higher secondary for admission in bachelors of science in Geography the admission process was very easy, there is an online and offline process of admission, I did the offline process, where I visited the college with all my documents and the department head helped me with all the process.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

1. Geography was always my passion and one of my favorite subjects in school. The different genre associated with geography always fascinated me, hence I opted for Geography as my graduation and masters subject. 2. There were total 6-7 professors and 2 lab assistants, Principal Madam used to take special lectures along with that, guest lecturers were invited as well to take classes time to time, and students ratio generally between 20-40 people 3. All the faculty were well qualified with Doctorate degrees and teaching method was theoritical as well as practical for an easy understanding. 4. exams were semester basis, every 6 months and the professors used to give us all sorts of documents, PPTs and notes which was more then enough to pass the exam with flying colours.

Fees and Financial Aid

For me in my Masters, the fee structure was Rs. 16,000 per semester (total 4 semesters). However, it might have changed now. However I felt the cost to study is quite affordable for Masters' studies as it also included lab usage costs, equipment usage costs.

Campus Life

5

1. College used to held several fests and programmes for the students, which includes the Holi festival, fests, welcome programme, and several others. 2. The books of several kinds were present in the library to get and read from there easily. 3. College used to held sports day where students were able to participate in different sports. 4. College have NSS group to support welfare programme to different groups of children.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My decision to choose this course depended on the fact that this course provides you with the opportunity to get various jobs in the industries with a high lpa. But this college does not help much in that aspect. All I had to do was myself. It is my humble opinion that the institution should improve its guidance in the area of its teaching methods. The exams were twice a year and were quite difficult on their own.

Biotechnology is a highly demanding course in today's world. The syllabus for this course is mostly around bookish knowledge and you have to gather outside knowledge on your own. There must be an internship for every student arranged by department itself in various other institues or labs for practical work experience.
