Best College Life in Greater Noida

I gave UPSEE which is the entrance exam for admissions in AKTU (former UPTU) colleges. During my allotment procedure, I opted for Galgotias College, JSS Academy, RKGIT, and more such top private AKTU colleges but my preference was for Galgotias as it became the top private college of UP in that year i.e 2018. I scored 288 marks and got a general rank of 12781. I availed for my SC quota and got an SC rank of 529. For this rank, I was clearly eligible for the Computer Science branch which I opted for. To lock my seat, security of Rs 12000 was paid to the UPSEE counseling which was later adjusted in my second-year fees.

Fascinated by computers, I chose BTech in Computer Science stream. The first-year curriculum for all branches remained the same, including subjects already done in 12th such as Physics, Chemistry, English, etc. From the second year, the subjects were stream-based. We were also given elective subjects to choose from, including Machine Learning, Big Data, Data Analytics, etc. There are 30+ faculty members in the CSE department mostly of which are Ph.D. or MTech. The faculty is frank and can help you with your queries. There are also departmental clubs like Extreme Club is of the CSE department which helps you to gain exposure and engage with the faculty even more. The college conducts its exams named CAE for internals. Mostly 3 CAE are conducted in a semester. The end semester exam is conducted by AKTU for all its colleges in which centers are allotted as for my college it was NIET. The syllabus can be completed in 1-2 days or even overnight to score a decent score.

Internship opportunities are less as you would be asked to do an internship in your summer holidays. You would have to find it on your own. They will ask you to register on Internshala and get an internship with a stipend. During your second and third years, there will be mini-projects to be made which you can work on of your choice. In your last year, you would ask a faculty member to be your mentor for the final major project. Also, you would be writing a research paper on it.

Once you complete your 5th semester, companies start to come into the college. The placement of Computer Science & IT students is very good in GCET. Many companies like Wipro, Cognizant, Grappus, TCS, Infosys, etc start coming when you are in your 6th sem. The profiles offered are Software Developer, Frontend developer, etc with an average package of 4.5 LPA. The placement percentage in GCET is about 85%. The highest package this year i.e. 2021 went to 35 LPA by Amazon. You need not worry if you are a student in this college, you will get placed eventually. After completing my degree I would be pursuing MS in DataScience from the UK.

The fees for the Computer Science branch and all other branches were quite similar. It was Rs 1,09,600 for one year. From the second year, there was also an option of an 8% rebate if we pay it earlier before the rebate deadline. The students who got an entry through management quota had to pay more. The scholarship was there for those who were not financially strong and whose family income was less than the given criteria. I got a loan to pay my college fees. The college provides good placement opportunities especially to the CSE & IT department. There are many companies that visited this year such as Wipro, Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, etc and still more are to come for my 2022 batch. The average package given is 4.5 LPA. Some companies also provided salaries of up to 8-10 LPA. Placement opportunities are abundant here.

Campus life is awesome here. Just in front of the main gate is a fountain where friends sit and enjoy in the evening. There are also many clubs under the Student Council such as Music Club, Dance Club, Dramatics club and many more. Being a part of any of the clubs helps you to learn new values and gain experience and they help us to gain exposure. The annual fest named Unifest is one of the best fests in the NCR region which you would definitely love. It's a two-day event with dance, music, fashion show, comedy house, and celebrity night (Mankirt Aulakh in my time). Also, sunburn was conducted in the college. Apart from this various celebrities came to our college for their promotions such as Akshay Kumar, Kartik Aryan, Sara Ali Khan, Amit Trivedi, Taapsee Pannu, etc. The CSE and IT classrooms are provided with central AC. There are many intercollege or interbranch sports competitions. Overall you would miss college life the most.

I opted for 4 seater room which cost me Rs 86,000 for one year including mess. There was also a 2 or 3 seater option but the room size was very small. Every room was occupied with beds, small-sized cupboards, tables, chairs, and curtains (NO AC or COOLERS). There are mostly switches away from the bed so the extension board is a must. The boys' hostel is 4 floors of which the first floor is reserved only for freshers. The hostel room is booked on first cum first serve basis. If the rooms are not available they will ask you to occupy Galgotias University's hostel room which is far from Galgotias College. If you don't get a room in a college hostel, don't go to universities, instead take RPH hostels. The mess is just ok, not very good. If you are into spicy food then you would ignore the mess all time just like I used to do. But there are many options in the canteen which you can go for with affordable and tasty food.
