Remarks

I had applied for various colleges including Iem, RCC, Heritage institute of technology etc. Among these I found St Thomas to be the best since it was ragging free, too much disciplined and at the same time it was near to my house. Apart from this when I attended a career fair there also the host advised me to take up this stream in this particular college. The admission criteria was quite simple. I faced no problem whatsoever. Just you need to have a proper wbjee rank. Apart from this you needed to have a 50% score in physics, chemistry and maths. If you pass all these criteria you are fit to attend this college. On the day of counselling you just need to attend the event in Yuva bharati where this particular counselling was held. Now just submit the demand draft of 15k to the college you chose. You can pay the remaining amount later also.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Yes among all the courses I preferred this stream since it was my childhood dream to go with this stream. Also in order to be eligible to sit for IES exam you need to appear from a core stream only. So this was another reason. Also the host of the career fair I attended advised me to take up this stream. Apparently the teacher :student ratio was 1:65. The teachers were all highly qualified. Some were from IIT, NIT. Some had left their job in Isro, Barc in order to pursue their dream in teaching. Most other teachers had done their mtech atleast in order to do teaching over here. These teachers were really helpful. If you ever have any doubt in mind you can easily approach them. The internal exams were quite easy. If you had listened to the teachers you can easily clear these. The semester exams were of moderate to difficult level. However if you are a sincere student it would be easy for you to clear these semester exams easily.

Internships Opportunities

5

Our college placement officer used to arrange internships for us. As I have mentioned before also I got the opportunity to do my internship which was without stipend in Tata Teleservices. Some got the opportunity to do the same in Tata Steel which was with stipend of 5k per month. Some had to do internship in Indian Railways. In our internship the employees used to teach us using PowerPoint presentation. We tried to learn from them as much as possible. We learnt about 2g,4g spectrum, bandwidth, regarding signalling equipments. Infact we had to go for a field visit also where we came to know about the position of towers, their significance. After completing training we were asked to submit a hard copy with a PowerPoint presentation of what we had learnt during our training. This was a huge task since we had to arrange for many things, had to do spiral binding of the hard copy which we submitted to Tata Teleservices.

Placement Experience

5

If we come to campussing aspect, students in their final year will only be eligible for campussing. Also if you have any pending backlogs you will not be allowed to sit for Infosys exam. If you are a topper then you will not be needed to sit for any aptitude exam for cognizant. You will just need to sit for cognizant interview. For Infosys, you need to appear for aptitude, hr and tr rounds. Various companies visited our campus like cognizant, Infosys, itc infotech, odesha technologies, sonodyne, ZTE, Vodafone etc. Highest package of 6 lakhs per annum was offered by cognizant whereas lowest package of 4 lakhs was offered by infosys. Average package of 5 lakhs was offered by cognizant. People who were not selected from on campus got themselves placed in offcampus. Around 88% students got placed from our batch. After getting degree I want to pursue MBA from a recognised b school or else will prepare for IES exam.

Fees and Financial Aid

In my time the cost of study was around 43k per semester. There were two semesters in each year so making it roughly 86k per year. In each year this semester fee increased by 1k. Now if you are a topper then you will be eligible to get 10% off on your tuition fees. I also received the same scholarship amount. This was termed as merit cum means scholarship. Apart from this if you belong to minority category you will be getting 100% off on tuition fees only. Other fees like development fee, lab fee, library fee all remain same for each and every student. In our campus placements I got selected in Cognizant technology solutions which happened to be our principal recruiter too. I did internship in Tata Teleservices where unfortunately we were not offered any sort of stipend. Some others did their internship in Tata Steel where some sort of stipend was being offered.

Campus Life

4.5

Annual tech fest named "Srey" was held every year in the months of February or March. We started to make preparations for this tech fest from January itself. We had lots of work to do starting from arranging sponsors for this particular event and also we needed to invite students from other colleges also. This tech fest included events like Robotics, Sudoku, Impromptu, Maths quiz, Spot quiz, Coding rounds etc. There were cash prizes for these events and also food vouchers. Apart from this there was another cultural fest which included only students of our college. They did dancing and singing. Our library included plethora of books, journals so we didn't need to go outside to purchase study materials. Also the campus was well connected via a high speed WiFi so we could have easily done our project easily without any hassle. The classrooms were neat and clean. Staffrooms had centrally ac. Annual sports day was held in our college which included cricket, badminton, football etc.

Placement Experience:

I’d rate HIT’s placement opportunities as 7.5/10 overall. It’s very good for CSE, IT, and ECE, decent for Electrical and core branches, and improving every year with more companies visiting and better preparation programs. If you’re skilled and consistent — especially in coding, communication, and aptitude — you’ll almost certainly get placed before graduatin

7th semester is when the students get to sit for placements. I am not sure about the total no of companies visited but I am aware of the name of few companies like IBM Infosys Wipro Capsitech Tech Mahindra cognizant etc . Mostly the girls are 100 percent placed cause there is diversity hiring. Mass recruiters is what visit our campus mostly.. I personally would look for a job after graduation highest package offered displayed by college is 75 lpa but I don't think so it is real. Maybe someone had worked hard and got placed off campus. On campus highest isbi guess 12-14 lpa

Course Curriculum Overview:

- I choose Data Science as it is new to my college when comparing with the other branches. The curriculum is just okay it is not per industry standards but if students deep drives in each aspects then they are likely to crack GATE exams. - The whole curriculum needs and improvement from the very 1st Year and removal of irrelevant subjects like Discrete Mathematics, Electonics, Biology for IT branches are required. - Semester exams are conducted every 6 months and CTs are conducted every 2 months
