One stop honest review for my beloved college IHM Lucknow

The Admission process was done through NCHMCT-JEE and was on an India basis. (It was done on the written process on OMR based sheet). But nowadays it's done on the computer. After we had received our ranks according to the performance of our JEE exam we had 3 rounds of counselling.(Done online) During the online counselling session, we were made to arrange our preferred IHM in serial orders. And for documentation verification/submission could visit any IHM which was the nearest to our hometown. The counselling process took about 15 days in total time. After the 3rd counselling and fees submission was over we were told to visit the IHM where we were allocated according to the rankings. After I visited the college on the counselling day we were made to select if we want a hostel or not(but again this will depend on the rankings of the JEE exam). And other formal processes of the college like submission of fees etc. Later we were made to take our measurements for college uniform(by a outsource)tailor.

Hotel management had a lot of growth during the pre covid era therefore I choose it. The faculty are excellent will lots of knowledge. It's was my interest to approach and learn more. The teaching method included a mixture of practical and theory(as hotel management is a very practical subject to pursue) The teaching methodology also included showing of different videos and (equipment used in different hotels) There was lots of competition and fests where we could learn leadership and bring out our talents. The teachers were well qualified and few were holding PhD degrees and few were pursuing PhD. The student to teacher ratio was (25 :1 in practical class). 60:1 on theory classes. We had mid sems and end sems total of 6 semesters in 3 years. The exams were moderately difficult. A person having in depth knowledge can score 90% or above. It depends on how often classes are attended by students.

There were many companies for internships like taj, itc, Oberoi and ritz Carlton Marriott etc. The stipend I received on itc, Windsor was 3000 per month. Different hotels paid differently. It was compulsory to go for internships but the choice of hotels and location was on the student to take a call. I choose Bangalore to do my internship. There is a 4 month internship which we did which included all the 4 core departments of a hotel. One thing to note is that the work culture is very difficult in industrial training(internship). We had to work in the restaurant outlets rooms and banquets of the hotels. The shift timings were almost 9-12 hours depending on the situation and rush at the hotels. We were made to serve guests in restaurants, clean rooms at Housekeeping, do check in and check out at the front office and chop vegetables and garnish dishes at the kitchen. Overall it's a huge learning curve and this includes a lot of hard work and dedication. This internship took place in our fourth semester.

From the 6th Semester, a student becomes eligible fir for sitting in campus placements. The different companies were dominoes, burger king, spectrum hotels, Ritz Carlton hotels, bata etc. I was very proud even though the pandemic hit us they did give us placement opportunities. Most of the companies offered almost the lowest position in the companies because of the covid pandemic. Average package is 10 -15 k per month and the highest was about 25 k per month. My plans is to pursue masters in this field after completing my BSc.

The fees did hike by 10000 almost which I don't think was justified even there was no reduction of fees during the covid times as there were only online classes and no practical classes were happening. I almost spent 3.5 lakhs in 3 years at IHM Lucknow which just included my college and IGNOU fees. The scholarship program was there for UP based students from the government of UP since I belonged to West Bengal I did not get a Scholarship. Financial assistance can be taken as loans from banks. There was a bank at the time of counselling as well to give a loan facility. Even during the covid times now I got 2 jobs (since the time I am writing this review). Both in Food and beverage sector. One in dominoes and one in absolute barbecue the salary they have promised is 20k and 17k respectively.

There are lots of groups in the college formed for different purposes. One named E cell which I was a part which had to do with sponsorships in our college so that we could earn and eventually arrange different colleges programs. There were also telegram groups for support of notes and discussions for exam preparation. The annual fest was known as Concordia was held in November. There was a huge library where all the subject books were available and the process of claiming the books were fairly easy The amenities were projectors and other equipment. Also, the kitchen and practice restaurants were stacked with all different kinds of things needed for the student learning. The Housekeeping and front office labs and different types of equipment and computers for front office operations. The different extracurricular activities included several competitions slogan writing or essay writing or even ethnic fashion shows.
