Entrance Preview

I joined the college in 1995 after the Gujarat State Boards HSC examination. I had a few options as far as the college and courses go. The key reason for me to chose the college was based on the primary research that I had done.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum was nicely structured in the sense that there were lot of value adds provided by the college beyond the Gujarat University standard. There was lot of focus on project based activities. The other aspect was that unlike some other colleges, we got industry exposure as well. There was lot of collaboration with foreign universities and programs for part perusal of course abroad. That gave us global exposure.

Internships Opportunities

Yes. The stipend at that time was zero but I am not sure on the current standards. However, I must say that I would not go by stipend, rather than the opportunity of doing some real work. For e.g. I was on internship at a gear manufacturing company and was able to do real good work of things like programming a CNC machine.

College Events

4.5

There were quite a few events covering the overall development. Technical events for projects and evaluation of them, cultural event were at large scale with very nice arrangements, participation. We had management address and guest lectures from prominent industry personality as well, which I would not classify as Management Festival , however, good events to give us insights.

Fees and Financial Aid

There was a loan facility for international programme. No idea about any other such facility. I did not avail loan or scholarship.

Exam Structure

Nirma had a very good and systematic exams as well as lab based assessment. We had assignments , tests and apart from that lab work based grading which was included as part of overall grades. We were perhaps the only college which had working Saturdays as well to allow us to do lab work. Attendance was mandatory and strict action were taken on lack of that or any other disciplinary issues.

Admission

The admission was as per the merit score of the Gujarat State Board exams at that point of time. The process in that regards was simple as we were required to chose the college and the seat available at that point of time. I chose Mechanical Engineering. I see that now, the process has changed and there are written tests / interviews etc, but in my times, it was not there.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty was very well seasoned. Almost all were the best teachers from some of the best colleges of Gujarat who were brought together. Some of them were IIT graduates as well. The faculty had the passion to make this college a success, and following closely, I must say that they achieved their vision with Nirma being one of the top colleges in Gujarat now.

Students become eligible for placements from the 7th Semester and companies start visiting at that time. The no. of companies that visit are around 30+ and the highest package offered last time was around 25+ LPA. The average package is 7-8LPA. Some of the companies that visit are Accenture,TCS, Infosys, JP Morgan(students got placed from a Hackathon)

this is tier 3 collage of surat so don't expect higer placements and big mnc come for the placements, in my placements they commited over 25+ local companies come from surat but actually only 15 has come and only 20 students got placement accross over 200 students(computer + IT). and the average placement is 2.5 lakh oper year. and most of the companies are red flag because they want students to sign 1-2 year bond with very low salary. then lets about training for placement, its ZERO big ZERO they dont provided the placement training, i have seen 90 students from 120 gets failed in apptitude round. they have not provided training for cracking the coding interview only those students are placed who have done preparation by it self even 9+ CGPA students didn't get placement.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course is actually pretty nice . Subjects are tought according to the needs but the problem is about they do not update course according to the needs like `right now everyone should know how to use AI tools well , these small thing should also include in it. Apart from technical subjects they also have communication , ethics , personality developemt as a subject too but with less credits.

Placement is there and around 92-95% students get placed every year which is quite good in current economy. Highest package offered was 12LPA which is decent for aa college openend less than a decade ago. Average package is around 6LPA to 7LPA. There is no restrictions in semester in which a student can apply for placement but usually 3rd and 4th year students are the one applying. My plan after degree is higher studies in colleges like Monash etc
