Remarks
I have applied for IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Kharagpur. I have not opted for IIT Bombay because I have chosen Metallurgy course and my rank was not that good I have missed by 200 ranks. I was getting Biotechnology in IIT Bombay but I don't want to opt for that branch. In IIT Guwahati I was getting Civil engineering but I don't want to opt for that brach because It does not contain the subject that I liked. In IIT Kharagpur as well as in Roorkee I have opt for Metallurgy and I was getting it in both colleges but IIT Kharagpur had NIRF rank more than IIT Roorkee at that time so I choosed IIT Kharagpur. I had availed for OBC quota. I had choosen Metallurgy and materials engineering[4 year] and I had got 107/396 marks in JEE Advanced. So minimum rank required was around 2800 in OBC quota. Couselling was done by josaa,You have to rank colleges between IIT,NIT,IIIT and others. So Pointer will move from least to most priority.
Course Curriculum Overview
Because This was the course which I love to study and also I was suitable for my rank. faculty:student ratio=1:19 They are highly qualified almost all had done Ph.D.'s. The teaching method is dependent on each teacher and most teachers doesn't get a chance to share their knowledge in great detail because of Less TIme but If you ask them questions or doubts outside class hours they will definitely give you much more knowledge. There are total 4 major exams in one year and If you want to just pass it maybe say around 6-8 pointers then you can just study for 10 days but If you want above that then you have to regularly attend lectures (to just get overall idea and concept of topic) and study regularly to get 8 above pointer. But the curriculum is designed in such a way that you have to study whether there are exams or not.
Internships Opportunities
More than 200+ companies come for internships with stipends. You can apply for an internship in the 3rd year if you have chosen the b.tech 4-year course and 4th year If you have chosen the b.tech 5 year course. Roles offered: Data Analyst, Engineering, Finance, Graphic designing, Management Consulting
Placement Experience
From 4th semester onwards students become eligible for placements. name of companies: Microsoft, Google, ISRO, Goldman sacs, Reliance, Unilever, Tata steels etc. Companies registered are around 200. The highest package offered was 65lakh/year and the average package was around 15 laks. The percentage of students getting placed are around 90. My Plans after my degree are not decided yet.
Fees and Financial Aid
In this pandemic situation, 1 semester (1year=2semester) fee is around 1,20,000rs. But It depends on annual income. There many scholarships according to annual income and also others. You will get many opportunities where you can get a stipend but for that, your skills are more important. If you mastered one skill you will get many opportunities as well as a stipend.
Campus Life
Kshitij-Tech fest and Spring Fest-Cultural Fest. IIT Kgp has huge Library. Due to Pandemic haven't seen the classroom yet. There are more than 20 sports with equipment and a play area. There are more than 40+ clubs that cover every extracurricular activity you mention like music, dancing, robotics, Entrepreneurship, finance, traveling and many more.
Hostel Facilities
Since I haven't seen the hostel yet I will tell you what I have heard, Rooms are not good not bad somewhere in middle. Internet is provided.First and second years get doubled or triply shared rooms but third and four year students get double or single shared room. Meal quality is also good. Hostels are affordable. All hostels are located in campus there are around 15 boys hostel and 6 girls hostels.Campus also contains many hangout places.
Other Applied Colleges
IIT Roorkee | Metallurgy and Materials engineering
Because IIT Kharagpur ranked above IIT Roorkee according to NIRF
IIT Guwahati | Civil Engineering
Because Civil Engineering doesn't contain Courses that I like.
IIT Bombay | Metallurgy and Materials Engineering
Because my rank was not good enough. I think I missed by 200 students.
