Velammal Engineering College - [VEC], B.E {Hons.}, Mechanical Engineering

Remarks

Overall the college life is good. each one get's to showcase his/her talent in one way or the other. The NCC is really active and provides a great experience. It really teaches a lot about life and how to lead a respectable one there are a few unnecessary rules regarding the interaction between boys and girls, which should change as the time continues but it's not happening so.

Entrance Preview

I did my Intermediate education in Andhra Pradesh and scored a 960 on 1000 in my theory examinations i chose Velammal because it was at a very convenient location. The hostel facilities were good and the state ranking of the college os very decent. It stands around top 15 among the Anna University affiliated colleges. Since it is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, I did not had to worry about the course they offer but the most important reason being it provided an active NCC training.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

Since the college is affiliated to Anna University, my program had a standard course work the syllabus was set and reviewed by Anna University, Guindy, Chennai over a period of four years it covered the entire syllabus which is required to lead an intellectual life of an Engineer.

Internships Opportunities

No the college does not provide any internship although if a student desires and arranges for it himself, they will provide support by allowing us to attend it and mark those days and On Duty.

Placement Experience

4

The placement for software companies is excellent, both product as well as service companies there are ample opportunities when it comes to mechanical and civil core companies, since the intake is very low, there is a very tough competition. But, if you are worthy you will surely get through but getting an IT job is not an issue at all.

College Events

4.5

We have symposiums, college day, sports meet, inter college competitions, regular interactions through events like debates, quizzes, essay competitions, and many other events. Each festival is celebrated by giving a few days leave depending on the festival.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is again set by the Anna University it vary depending on the students. The tuition fees are as following, first graduate in a family - Rs. 45000, Counselling srudent - Rs. 60000 management Student - Rs 90000, the hostel fees is Rs 25000, and mess fees is rs 50000.

Fees and Financial Aid

No scholarship or loan is offered by the college as such, but they do provide support if we have to get them externally.

Campus Life

3

The campus life is good, neither very strict nor very lenient the perfect type to grow and learn we have a diverse population there are people from all the south Indian states as well as few North Indians there is no discrimination at all and almost everything is very transparent.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The hostel is convenient and strict at the same time to enter and get out of the campus we need permissions and signatures each room is shared with 4 other students there is no problem with water and electricity although the water is a bit hard i feel that for the amount we pay for the hostel it's a good deal.

Alumni/Alumna

Since I am still studying I am nit much aware about the alumni network, but I don't think It's very active and effective.

Exam Structure

Since the college is affiliated to Anna University, the exam procedures and rules are standard the overall period of the examination may prolong over a month to accommodate all the departments and years we definitely get sufficient time between each exam to prepare and appear for it the only issue is that the revaluation fees set by the University is too high and not at all effective even the correction is not up to mark.

Admission

Although I scored well in my theory examination, i got in through the management quota the process was very simple and the steps were clear. The officials cleared every doubt we had and they were really cooperating at each step the head office is in Velammal School, muggapair, chennai. All the initial documentation occurred there the final steps were in the college campus.

Faculty

3.5

There are basically two groups of faculty, one which are experienced and well delivering and the other who are just the opposite i guess it's all about how long they have been in the field but if you have doubt in any field there are people available who can solve it in minutes so that's a plus point.
