Remarks

Days spend in KJ somaiya were the best days of the life. So many memories with this institute that will last throughout my life.

Entrance Preview

No entrance exam was required at that time. It was only PCM score which was considered. For my MBA college i undertook MH CET in which i scored 93.2 percentile

Course Curriculum Overview

5

Course for mechanical engineering for mumbai university was excellent. After having similar course for first year for all the branches, the subjects become more branch oriented from second year. Topics like metallurgy kinematics of machinery, strength of materials, KOM, DOM 1 and 2, Hydraulics, Power plant engineering, Fluid mechanics, Finite element analysis, RAC were few excellent subjects which were covered during the course

Internships Opportunities

No. College did not provide internships. So there is no question of general stipend. However placement opportunities were excellent

Placement Experience

3

As mentioned above, the placement opportunities were excellent. Specially for IT sector. Companies like TCS, Infosys, L and T infotech, Wipro, Siemens, Vistaar, Amdocs, Patni etc pulled large number of students from the college and placed them with ample salary.

College Events

4.5

Abhiyantriki was a technical event which was conducted in the first half or for odd semesters. Robotics was the main event for abhiyantriki. Apart from robotics there were lot of other technical debate, seminars and quizzes which were conducted. Symphony was the cultural festival which was conducted for the second half or even semesters. It was the festival of songs, dance, DJ, food, fashion and friendship.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure was ok till the first year. I was 15000 per year for general category. However students who were admitted in 2003, got exponential hike in their fees. It was hiked 4 times wrt current fees structure. Later on the fees got hiked so much that it went beyond the control of common man

Fees and Financial Aid

No. No loan facility or scholarships were offered by college. All the expenses were to be done by students.

Campus Life

4

Somaiya has a gender ratio. Male to female ration might be round 60:40. Their were no incidents of sexual harassment, ragging and racism. Somiaya staff never entertained religious or political debate and always encouraged patriotism and communal harmony.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Hostel facilities were good enough for a student to stay. Mess was pure vegetarian and was maintained extremely well. Mess facilities were extended to other students also. The cost was very less and food was good and tasty. Lot of memories with hostel canteen related to cricket matches.

Alumni/Alumna

Senior students were backbone of college administration. They helped the juniors with proper guidance. Students helped their juniors by providing notes and old text books.

Exam Structure

Exam structure was hectic during those days. There was hardly any relaxation between the consecutive examinations. In case if you have any back log, then it would be more dangerous. It was semester pattern and aggregate of 60 was considered for placements.

Admission

During those days every one has to queue themselves in VJTI campus for admission rounds. Each candidate need to check where he/she got the seat allotment. I was also admitted into the college in the same manner. I got the admission in first round itself.

Faculty

4

Quality of professors was excellent. Staff was very well qualified for teaching subjects. There were industrial experts along with professors from IIT and other paramount educational institutions. The labs were fully equipped with the required apparatus to give practical knowledge to students.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Soo ever since kid i was interested in bikes this interest was all for me to take this course , my father is very bike enthusiast and it came down to me , i could easily take mechanical and other engineering cause these are common courses which involves automobile , but since i wanted to follow my passion , i wanted to do specialization in automobile itself and DPCOE was offering this course with great facilities and knowledge providing us a path in this lane of career in this field. According to me curriculum prepares us quite well as they conduct workshop which are relevant to outside world where we'll be working. If there were more practical workshops for us to work on would be great cause automobile engineering is all about practicals rather than theoroticals Professor should try teaching in physical part rather than taking lectures and explaining the concept by just words

Yes there is placement cell of STES which is no different than other tier 3 engineering colleges offering a tier 3 average package depending on who is the recruiter. Students become eligible for campus from 3rd year of their degree. Highest package is something around 55 lakhs offered to a computer engineering student, and average is just like I said for a tier 3 college 5-6 lakhs(above or below). Almost everyone gets placed in the company but some might not.
