My SMU journey

I gave my graduation from SMU and so i decided to study further in the same college. The admission procedure to study here is very simple. I filled up the application form and submitted all the necessary documents i.e my 10+2 marksheets, my graduation marksheets along with my personal details and a fee of rs 1000. The forms are available online as well as offline in the campus office. It is on the basis of merit but personally i felt anyone can join this university whose average percentage is above 45%. There weren't any personal interview for me.

I pursued my Bcom degree from the same college and since i wanted to study further, I opted for the same college, because i had a good experience pursuing my Bachelors degree. The student faculty ratio is 1:15 which gives makes our professor's job easier to teach the course. We had a total number of six faculty to teach the course. They all had a teaching experience of more than ten years. two of my professors were PHD holders as well. We have four semesters which is followed by internals and externals. The internal marks are added in the external which makes it easier for us to score.

My department does not have a very good placement cell. Very few companies visit the campus. So after my masters, I moved out of sikkim and started my career in an finance MNC company known as PWC. The starting package was twenty five thousand per month which was followed by a 5% hike a year later.

The fees is to be paid on a yearly basis. My course was a two year programme, and i used to pay around sixty two thousand per year. I don't remember any fee hike for my programme. SMU does provides scholarships, it is merit based and need based as well. The university has a dedicated site for its scholarship details. No on campus or part time jobs are available.

The campus has library for further references. It conducts events like annual seminars and lectures. It also celebrates fresher's welcome, halloween college party including a college fest known as Kaalrav. It is very exciting and is a three day fest. It is the biggest north east college fest. There are inter college basketball tournament as well. Overall life at SMU is a good experience. It also has a great view as it is situated in the hilly region of india.
