Remarks
The college has produced vibrant human resources from different fields ranging from Academic, Political, Media, Business, Cultural and different professions. The college gives you the vibe that despite being on a campus of over 20 departments and centers, you're ultimately united, as a jbian. The Department of Commerce in this college is old, legacy-carrier and a torchbearer of commercial education in the state. It was an easy merit-based admission process done generally during June of every year. However, the problem with the college is the presence of certain dominant bodies that don't allow campus democracy to flourish in a healthy manner. And many times the administration is also partial in this regard. As a whole, I preferred JB because I wanted to learn as well as get the taste of life that it provided me with. It gave me opportunities to express myself in many ways.
Course Curriculum Overview
The Course curriculum is very updated and oriented towards fulfilling the demand of the commerce scenario in the country. There is a prevalence of the CBCS system. However, the faculty: Student ratio isn't that healthy. It is 90 to 100 students in a section with 1 teacher teaching at a time. The qualification of the faculties are excellent and most of them are PhDs. The teaching pattern is good, though traditional. The exams were timely. There're two sessional exams and a final exam in a semester. The exams are not that difficult to do good if one studies well.
Placement Experience
Students apply for placements at the end of the 5th sem and 6th sem. Though there aren't many direct placements, students by their own means get placed somewhere or the other. Different companies that students get into through campus placement include TCS, Genpact, Vedanta, etc. People also get into Government jobs and other internships. I went to academics, after my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are affordable. For the financially weaker section, there's free admission too. The Government scholarships like Ishan Uday etc exist at the disposal of the students. Also, different other scholarships directed towards particular categories are also prevalent. I got a job offer on campus with Genpact. Other placement companies include TCS, ONGC(intern), etc.
Campus Life
Life at JB campus is full of 'life'. There's an annual week for the students, now named as 'Anirvana'. Different clubs include Debating Club, Literary Club, Drama Club, Cultural Club. There's a book bank, Life Club and so on. Classroom amenities include e classes at some and general offline infrastructure at others. The library is very good and rich in different books and carries a historical significance. The college has a college week. The students also represent the college in various inter-college competitions, youth festivals, and so on. Students are quite active in all these competitions. I was engaged in Debating and was the best debater of the whole University for three consecutive years. It was the college, that provided me with the required explore. However, internal politics inside the campus is very dominant to certain students, who are also responsible for the little shortcomings inside the college. This at times leads to partiality with a few.
