Remarks
I was among the top 1% of students in the state. I wanted to pursue chemical engineering since 11th. After browsing a lot about the best college for chemical engineering in Gujarat, I ended up getting MSU as an answer on all websites and references. Admissions in MSU are on the basis of the combined percentile of PCM marks in Boards and GUJCET score. The cut-off for Chemical Engineering goes highest all over Gujarat. You will find all the students to be the toppers of their respective schools. The good aspects of the college are that it is a University and have full flexibility to alter the course syllabus. Hence, taking a review of what is actually required in an industry, they keep updating the syllabus. Hence, it helps in carving well capable engineers out of us.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is very well developed. In each semester we have around 5 subjects. More than being just a piece of knowledge, it is more of a practical approach based syllabus. The number of Faculty members is sufficient. Each student gets good exposure to teachers because the number of students is less i.e 40-42. All the teachers are very well established. We have assistant teachers, teachers, professors and HOD involved in teaching. The HOD is a PhD graduate from IIT BOMBAY. All other professors are also PhD graduates. All other teachers are Master degree holders. In the first year, we do not have Internal Exams. Only two exams are conducted throughout the year in a gap of 6 months. From the second year onwards, we have Internal exams as well as the Externals. Internals are 20 marks and externals of 80. The Viva, Teamwork, Practical exams together comprise 50 marks.
Internships Opportunities
Internships become available from the 6th semester as of what I have heard till now. I am not aware of the companies offering internships at present because I am a 4th-semester student. But yes, stipends are offered too along with internships in some companies.
Placement Experience
Placements are too good in Chemical Department at least till last year. We had almost 90% placement last year. The students become eligible for placements from the 7th semester. Various companies visit the campus for placements. ONGC, GNFC, GSFC, NIRMA, BechTel, ALEMBIC to name a few. The highest package offered was 17 lakhs in around 2017. The average package is around 4.5 lakhs. My plan after getting a degree is to pursue M.Tech from some IIT.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college being semi-government, fees is negligible. Yearly fees stand at an amount of Rs 8590 for all B.Tech courses. The students are eligible to take a whopping amount of scholarships too. SC-ST and OBC students find themselves high above the sky after receiving the scholarship amount. Some names are FFE scholarship, Anhalt scholarship, DSW scholarship, Digital Gujarat scholarship, MYSY scholarship and various others. In some cases, it adds up to about 2 lakhs too. I, being a general student was not eligible for any such scholarship. But yes I was the topper in the university in the first semester for which I would be receiving a scholarship from my department.
Campus Life
A number of events are organised all around the calendar each year. All of them are well known all around Gujarat and have received appreciation from various organisations as well as Chief Minister, Prime Minister, etc. PRERNA - July- August, PARAMARSH - Sep- Oct, FOOTPRINTS - Nov- Dec, JUNOON - Jan-Feb is their names. We have a library in our Faculty which has almost all the books related to our syllabus. But the only issue is that they are limited in number. Hence, one has to be smart enough of when and which books to take. Books are given for a time period of 30 days and then they are to be returned back else you would be subjected to a penalty. Classrooms are physical and consist of wooden benches and green boards. Projector rooms are available too but are seldom used. We have an entire Pavilion meant for sports purposes. You'll find all sorts of sports over there. ACES, TACSS, IIchE, msuvision are some clubs run by students.
