Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum has recently been revamped with a much greater focus on research. The college took cues from colleges like Stanford and made research an important part of the credit requirement for each subject.
Internships Opportunities
As a part of the curriculum, a four-week internship is compulsory and students are supposed to find their own internships, and the college doesn't take responsibility for finding a place for an internship formally.
Placement Experience
Placement and job opportunities are the major selling point of VIT, as they have the highest placement records for eligible students. The majority of the jobs are for branches such as CSE and IT. Placement for the rest of the branches usually takes place in mass recruiting IT companies such as TCS, Infosys, CTS, etc., with core company offers to be few and afar.
College Events
There are two major festivals in the college, Gravitas, a technical fest, and Riviera, a cultural fest. There is a management fest as well called Invictus, but it's pretty new compared to the other two. The fest is huge and they incur over a period of 3-4 days, with a very large number of events going on in every part of the campus, although participation costs can be pretty steep.
Fees and Financial Aid
Although the college doesn't usually offer any scholarships, it helps them in contacting the right people for the scholarships they need. Scholarships are offered for students who get into good colleges for PG.
Campus Life
The gender ratio is better than most public colleges, an approximate 4:1. Diversity is a major part as students here come from all parts of the country. NRI students and students from sister colleges in China and Africa are abundant.
Alumni/Alumna
The school office of every branch keeps an alumni record, which is updated every once in a while with the help of current students. It comes in handy while looking for internships, foreign universities, information regarding various companies and jobs. Many alumni are often invited to speak to the students regarding their future prospects.
Exam Structure
There are two internal assessment and one final assessment exams for each semester, with assignments and quizzes, sprinkled in between, which add to the internal assessment. Lab exams vary with respect to internal assessment but generally follow the same pattern.
Faculty
The quality of the faulty is very variable. A good number of faculty are amazing. They are interested in the subject, in teaching, and are actually pretty good at what they do. However, the numbers are diluted by a large number of faculty who are sub-par or have very poor teaching and communicative skills.
