Remarks
Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur which is a baby IIM and has completed around 5 years. Given the time of establishment, it has achieved a lot in this success and is gradually growing very fast. The admission process includes giving CAT and clearing with a percentile approximately above 80 to 82. The process is done through CAP rounds. Besides the main PGP program for MBA, it has introduced two more programs which are MBA-THM(tourism and hospitality management) and PHD. The number of seats for the upcoming batches has increased as the placements are going quite fine with an average package of 12 LPA and the highest being around 32. Preferring this college would not only make the curriculum best with a tag of the brand name but also enjoying the location and the opportunities that come up. Reviews can be seen on CollegeDunia, Shiksha, etc. If you look for a brand and have fewer options then you can prefer IIM SIRMAUR over another baby IIMs.
Course Curriculum Overview
Choosing HR as my preference is because I have an inclination towards HRM and I have certain skills like leadership, situation handling, multi-tasking, decision making that have helped me a lot whenever I handled a crowd or handled any role. The teachers for HRM have done their studies from foreign colleges as well and they have a lot of experience in teaching. So the teachers are up to the mark for this course. The term exams have been quite good. Given the prior readings and PPT's, it was easy to grasp things and give exams. The session recordings are also available as online mode provides such help. The marking of teachers is also lenient. If you write well, you score well.
Internships Opportunities
There are many companies that participate in the Summer Internship process. A lot of startups also participate apart from the major companies. ICICI, Shriram, Powergrid, and many more. They offer roles like HR, marketing, etc. with a stipend of 6 to 30 thousand per month. The tasks given are predefined through the mail, and the stipend has fixed and variable pay too. So as per performance, one can get what one wishes for.
Placement Experience
Basically, the placements here range from a package of 10 to 15 LPA, that is the average package. The companies are a mix of branded and known companies and some startups also participate in the final process. Whether it is a start-up or a renowned brand, all the companies provide good packages. People get PPOs even when they are in the last semester for the year or before that. The highest package can be 30 to 33 LPA based on the company and how you perform. Usually, all the students get placed at the end. Some can opt-out if they find good opportunities outside. In the end, the count is 100 percent getting placed. I also want to get placed in a good company with a package of 15 LPA, I hope to get a PPO too. I want to have a full-fledged experience in a good company and then slowly and gradually grow and grab better opportunities with passing time.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is basically paying fees term-wise in installments. The total fee is around 11.75 lakhs for the whole 2 years PGP MBA. There are scholarships also available for the SC and ST students. Apart from this there are banks available in college contacts who give loans on the reasonable interest which can be paid till 10 yrs of disbursement. The stipend for internships and final jobs are also satisfactory. Being in 1st year and because of covid, the stipend which I got for Summer Internship is 10,000 per month. But people have also got 20,000 and 30,000 approximately.
Campus Life
Indian Institute of Management Sirmaur has many fest and events but the main events are Sierra, TEDx, HR Conclave, Udgam, and many more. These events happen once in every year and on a grand basis. Apart from this what unique is there in our college is the infrastructure, although this is run in the temporary campus it has all the amenities. There is a library which has all kinds of books and magazines. Then the classrooms are well and good. The students of the upcoming batch might end up studying in the permanent campus asnit is under construction. The new campus has each and every facility which a student needs. There are many sports events also held every month. So being a part of any extracurricular activity is an extra fun element. In our college, there are around 13 clubs and committees for various purposes. These clubs and committees take charge of handling the responsibilities and duties for the college.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel and mess food here is very good if compared to any other IIM. For females, there are attached bathrooms and for males, there are common bathrooms. For every student, each floor has a common room where washing machines and other things like electric kettle, etc is provided. The mess food here feels like home. Every month the menu is changed and you will get dishes from all parts of the corner. The hostel fees is included in the term fees but the mess charge is paid seperately.
Interview Experience
Yes, for getting into a baby IIM too, one has to clear all the CAP(common admission process) rounds. There will be calls from colleges based upon the CAT score. After the calls, there will be GD-PI rounds and if you clear the round, you will be given offers based upon your performance amongst the other candidates who give the same process. For preparing through these rounds I did a lot of mock interviews and GDs. One can prepare in front of a mirror as well or can ask any person who has some experience in taking interviews. For the final rounds, it really matters to speak confidently and do not panic in the interviews.
