Remarks

The institute was comparatively nearer to my home state, while at the same time offered a sense of independence that can be found only after leaving home state. The professors and research experience provided by the institute was excellent,The only prospective bad thing about the college might be it's location, situated in Kalyani it is nearly a 1.5hrs travel by train from Howrah station in Kolkata and 40mins drive from dum dum airport. But I wanted a peaceful place away from all the bustling of the city so the institute was perfect for me.

College Events

4.5

Life at campus was amazing, it is a very big campus for the student strength of 1200 total. The campus is fully fledged with all the facilities you might ever need from sports and recreational activities to high quality computational facilities. We also have a swimming pool in campus. There are a number of individual sports field s for games like football, cricket, basket ball, lawn tennis, badminton, volleyball, kho-kho etc. We also have 2 indoor courts for badminton and table tennis. We have a gym with pretty above average number and quality of equipment that is also free to use for anybody. There are a number of different clubs and initiativea run by the institute like music, most of the sports have their own clubs, dance, drama, rubicks, robotics etc. The library is well equipped with books and is open 24x7 except on national holidays.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees of the institute have been rising from the past few years and is currently at rs.49000 per SEM for a general student along with all facilities. There are many scholarship (s ) available for people from disadvantageous social/economical backgrounds from the state government for students in science (along with few merit based institute scholarships)

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The hostels provided are 3-sharing for first year students and 2-sharing for 2nd-4th ye students, 5th ye students get their own room. Each person gets a bed with storage compartment s, an almirah, a table with storage compartment s and a chair. Most rooms also have extra study lamps. The rooms have windows with nets to keep away mosquitoes. The hostels have very minimal/no restrictions in any kind of timings. The only restrictions are "Opposite sex visits are restricted from 11am-11pm in the hostels". The food provided in mess is very good. with daily rotations of menu, and ample amount of selections available. The rate of food is also very cheap.

Admission

First we had to qualify the board percentage criteria in order to appear in iat exam. We had to appear in iiser admission test(IAT 2019), The test was of mcq pattern for 4 subjects in total. Out of the 4 subjects physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics the students were graded on their best 3 subject scores. There were 30 questions in each subject and 120 questions in total. Each correct answer fetched +1 mark and each wrong answer fetched -0.3 marks. The ranks from the exam determined our placement in the college.
