Remarks

Come here at your own risk. If you like math, please don not venture out here as it will make you lose all the interest in that subject due to its(college's) dismal state

Entrance Preview

The admission process was based on B.Sc marks. Hence, there were no entrance exam. I had scored 73% in my graduation. So, I got admitted to the college based on these marks. I had opted for this course as I was always interested in Maths.

Course Curriculum Overview

1

The course structure is depressing and makes you lose interest in the subject easily. The course is divided into four semesters. Each semester has internal exams which carry 40 marks. There is almost zero scope for research as the infrastructure is really bad.The course is more about mugging and passing exams.

Internships Opportunities

No, the college does not offer any internship. When it comes to being employment, the college lacks it. There are no internships sponsored by the department. Even if there are any internship opportunities at other institutes, students are never informed about them.

Placement Experience

0.5

There are no placement and job opportunities at the institute. Just one company had come to the department for placement, they had the worst experience ever. They swore never come to the institute again after the harrowing experience. This was the only time a company came to our department, never again.

College Events

1.5

There are almost no events in our college. There are just few guest lectures that are organised by the department. Then, there is freshers party and farewell that is celebrated every year. We(me and my friends) organised a Maths film festival which was quite a success and was organised with the help of department.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is feasible. The fees is Rs 5000 only. This include all the fees like tuition, library etc. As the University is a government granted, the fees are heavily subsidized. The fees are nothing compared to private institutes where people pay a lot to get admission.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are scholarships for the first 50 toppers in B.Sc. They get a sum of 1500 Rs from the University.

Campus Life

1

Mumbai University has a huge campus situated at Kalina, Santacruz in Mumbai. The campus life is quite interesting for a person of varied interests like me. I was able to attend events organised by any department. Theatre arts, politics, films etc all were part of my campus life. The gender ratio is healthy with the same amount of both boys and girls. The campus is quite diverse and helped me meet different people with different experiences

Hostel Facilities

2.5

There are two girls hostel's and one boys hostel in the campus. I don't know much about the girls one as boys are not allowed inside. On the other hand, boys hostel is just like any other government hostel. Small rooms with a single bed, study table and cupboard. The mess food is tasty and very cheap. You can have a good meal for just 30 Rs only

Alumni/Alumna

Senior students are mostly busy with their academics and hardly interact with juniors. They just meet during the freshers party or farewell. Some do help if you approach them with some difficulty in studies.

Exam Structure

The exams are divided into four semesters, each take place after a period of 6 months. Also, internal exams are conducted are conducted before external exams. External exams carry 60 marks and internal exams carry 40 marks. It is necessary to pass in both the exams to pass the entire semester

Faculty

0.5

The faculty is the worst part of the college. Very few actually know how to teach Maths. Most of the time they are not supportive. They are most of time busy in playing petty politics. Two groups clashing against each other and least bothered about the welfare of students.

Placements in Fergusson are pretty good. Students are eligible for sitting in the placement drives from the 3rd semester, we also get Pre-placment activities and tests before the drive starts. We get companies like Axtria, Vois , bluepineapple etc on campus. The highest package is 10 - 12 lakhs and 4-6 lakhs on an average. In my batch out of the 30 people we 20 are placed so far on campus.

Placement Experience:

The placements in the GIPE are decent. This year the highest package offered was 18 lakhs per annum by Deloitte and IDFC FIRST Bank. Although the placements are not 100% but it's around 60%. Students need to work hard and score well in aptitude test and they should start the preparation from the second semester onwards so that they can easily manage their end semester exams as well as the aptitude test. The average placement package is around 8-9 lakhs. My plan is to get a corporate job and gain some experience and exposure in the corporate world and learn how the things actually work. Many companies that come to the college are looking for data analytics role. The ratio of the companies looking for consultant, risk analyst is less based on market demand and other circumstances.

Placement Experience:

By the end of sem3 itself, the postgraduates are deployed into interviews for certain internships. But if you are with good academic scores and knowledge you can even get directly placed. Every individual is given 3 chances by the college to get and crack the interview but if the student is not able to then he is guided to where to apply but mostly ICRI makes sure everyone is placed as the college proudly stays with its 100% placement tag line. As I told here there are varied background people here with different needs of roles, the highest package I have seen getting is 15L pa to the lowest of 3L pa which even depends upon the company to your broad spectrum of knowledge. To specify which companies come here for recruitment are sun pharma, Cipla, and many more there are all 20+ companies that come and hire the intellectuals. To specify about me I am planning to get a CRC post as a start for CRA in the future.
