Remarks
The brand of an IIM and the excellent placements attracted me to IIM Ranchi. The admission process was seamless even in the online mode. The waiting time for the interview was very short as the slots had been communicated before the D-day and the timings were maintained throughout. I chose IIM Ranchi over as I wanted to pursue HR and the college has a good reputation for this course. Also, the course is in place for a long time and is aligned with the SHRM curriculum.
Course Curriculum Overview
I wanted to pursue HR, and so this course. The faculty here is knowledgeable. They do not restrict themselves to only theoretical aspects but also focus on the practical side of things. Most of the faculty members have a significant corporate experience, which they share as experiences with the class. They are highly qualified and supportive of the students.
Internships Opportunities
For MBA-HR 2019-21, top brands came for summer internships like Deloitte, Samsung, Google, Flipkart with diverse roles in HR Analytics, L&D, CSR & Sustainability, and many more. The highest and average stipend being 287000/- and 100171/- respectively.

IIM Ranchi witnesses 100% placements. Big brands come for selections like Amazon, Godrej, Flipkart, KPMG, Deloitte. For the 18-20 final placements, the highest package for MBA - HR 26.5 LPA, and the average was 14.55 LPA. For MBA, it was 22.37 LPA and the average was 15.11 LPA.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is reasonable and lower than other IIMs. The college provides excellent financial assistance in the form of tie-ups with banks for loans and several scholarship opportunities like NSP and National Fellowships. The placements are also good and the college attracts big brands.
Campus Life
IIM Ranchi annually conducts AGON (management fest) and RUSH (cultural fest). This year, they happened together in a 3-day window, virtually. There were 30+ events, 50+ B schools, and 15000+ participants. All the important and famous journals and resources are available in an online setup. The library also has a rich collection of databases, books, and magazines. Plenty of extra-curricular activities happen such as dance, drama, music, art and crafts, sports. Also, the entire college is student-run with various clubs and committees for all the domains - Digitalytics (Analytics Club), Finopsis (Finance Club), HiRe (HR Club), and many more.
Hostel Facilities
All the necessary amenities are provided in the hostel room like a mattress, table, chair, cot, cupboard, and geyser. The mess has a variety of options for food and there is a different menu for every day. Four meals are offered in a day - Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks, and Dinner. The menu also changes periodically as per the student's feedback. The quality of the food is also good.
Interview Experience
For MBA-HRM interview, only PI was conducted. However, WAT is also a part of the process. Some of the interview questions were: "Why MBA?", "Why HR?", "3 good and bad things you like about the HR in your previous organization?", "What would you like to change in your past?", and some basic questions about how different states in India and different countries are handling COVID-19. As part of the preparation, I focussed on four sections: Know Self, Work-Ex, HR-related questions, and current affairs.
