College life in PICT.

College is pretty good if you can suffice with less materialistic facilities. It is really good for studies and a great college life.

I gave AIEEE and CET. However, I could get admission to the college based on my AIEEE score which was 210. I wanted to do engineering in computers specifically. Although I had option for NIT, Nagpur, after asking few people I decided to go for PICT only. It's one of the reputed college in Computers which has only three streams, computer engineering, information technology and electronics and telecommunication.

Course is quite good, which is not that much but to a certain extent in synch with the industry. Atleast the practicals which we had were kept by thinking about industry standards. There are professors as well as alumni groups that help apart from curriculum to do research projects.

No. The college doesn't provide internship. Although for BE project college allows us to do project under some commercial company which can be considered as an internship for that company. Stipend usually differs from company to company.

The placements have been suffering due to some reason since the last 2-3 years. As TPO is not that actively involved in getting students placed in good companies, but rather in just getting them placed somewhere. There are some good companies as well that came for hiring while I was in my BE like Symantec, Veritas, Avaya, Rakuten, SAP Labs. Also computer department organises a project exhibition called Impetus and Concepts where most of the BE students from the college as well as from other colleges and even cities participate. There are high chances of getting offers based on your project in the event as people from big companies judge the competition.

Official annual fest of the college is called as Addiction. it is usually of 3-4 days where 1 day is fix as traditional day and the last day is fix as student performances in an Ganesh auditorium hall near swargate which is a really big hall. Rest of the days are like mismatch day, gang day etc. Other events are organised by various societies in college which are Art Circle, IEEE Student Branch, etc. Art circle has event usually in every odd sem to introduce the society to freshers and another event called Abhivyakti which happens in around February where only freshers perform. IEEE organizes Credenz which has different competitions and talks by Reputed people from the industry as well as IEEE.

Fee structure is normal for open fees is around 90000rs. Which varies for other reservations. You also get EBC concession based on your family income. Fees is taken yearly. Only DD is accepted by the college which you can get easily since there are many banks around the college. Also college makes available from bank in the library so that students can get the DD done in the college itself.

Sorry I'm not aware of the loan facilities in college. Although there are notices for many government offers scholarships on the notice board quite frequently.

It's said that PICT has a really good crowd. The people you come across here are really decent. There are all kind of people here ranging from nerds to artists. Art Circle which is reffered as official cultural society of the college is active throughout the year with all facilities provided by college. Since I was a core member of this society I'm personally aware of all the things that college has willingly provided to make us compete with other colleges in competitions such as Purushottam karandak and Firodiya Karandak. The best part of this society is there is no official membership to join the group. Gender ratio differs from Batch to batch and is not constant. People from Maharashtra as well as north and north east are also studying in the college. Also few faculty members are from South. College doesn't tolerate ragging in any way. There are strict rules regarding the same. The labs are maintenaned in pretty good conditions and are regularly updated with trending technologies.

Hostel and Mess facilities are quite different. Earlier the caterer we had for the college canteen wasn't that good. Although it's been changed now it affects little. a massive range of food stalls are available across the college gate where you can get anything and at considerable amount. The hostel has two people in single room which is spacious and a single bathroom. The Ethernet speed is really good in the college hostel.

Alumni group is quite active in their respective societies. Although there are two groups of alumnis which provide guidance for projects.

Exam structure is in synch with Pune University. Till 2nd year you have two online exams 25marks each and 50 marks theory paper each sem. From 3rd year, there is a mid sem theory exam of 30 marks and semester exam of 70 marks. The ATKT structure is in the ratio of 2:3 for the year. You can either have 2 subjects and 3 pracs as back or 3 subjects and 2 practicals as back to avoid a year down.

The admission process was pretty much usual and not at all hectic. Based on online preference given for admission to college on DTE website, we get to know if we got seat in that college, which is based on merit. After that you can report to college within a week and confirm your seat by doing necessary documents verification and all.

Faculty is pretty decent. Although the few of the new professors try to be strict and soundly academic, it creates a lot difficult for students to cope up with assignments. The older faculty is really helpful and understanding. Few new professors are also helpful and try to guide you in whichever way they can in any difficulties.
