Remarks :
It is a women's college, so women do have the utmost freedom inside the campus but it is still kind of a strict college. Studies are given more importance than anything hence Alphonsa never fails to bag most of the university ranks. Sports is one of the trademarks of the college, apart from the studies. Alphonsa always grabs the women's championship title in M.G. university sports meet. We can see teachers who are so dedicated to teaching all around the college. But Alphonsa is not all about studying, we got so many celebrations, fest and many more. Alphonsa has earned great fame so its always something to be proud of being an Alphonsian. Bachelor degree courses are mostly aided, so there won't be any semester fees. Admission processes according to the dates of M.G University, Kottayam.
Course Curriculum Overview :
I love Chemistry so I chose it to be my main. The chemistry department in Alphonsa is so good. Teachers are so much dedicated to teaching. We were about 40 students and we had 7 teaching faculty with great qualifications. Most of the teachers secured a PhD and had profound subject knowledge. Though it was kind of a spoon-feeding system, it was remarkably visible in our final grades. Exams were scheduled by M.G University, it wasn't timely but we always get many days off before the exam begins. Exams were moderately tough.
Placement Experience :
Third-year students are eligible for campus placements. Mostly banks visit and recruit students. But generally, placement is poor in the college. 80% above students get placed. I like to continue my studies by pursuing masters.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Most of the Bachelor's programme is aided, so there won't be any semester fee. But we had to pay almost 3000 Rs each year, but if a student is from a family whose annual income is lower than 2 lakhs then she can apply for KPCR or E-grant so that she doesn't have to pay it. The college also offers various merit-based and need-based scholarships too. On-campus job is not available in the college.
Campus Life :
We have a youth fest, dance fest, food fest, arts day, annual day celebration and many more every year. Arts and annual day happen in January. The library is large though we are short of the latest best selling and trending books. Journals are available. Classrooms are basic, not smart enough. Sports is active but extracurricular is not that much active. There are many clubs like music, dance, art, literature, JY, etc, run by students alone.
Hostel Facilities :
Hostel and PG are available all around the area. It is much costly compared to other areas. There are run by the convent sisters. Full accommodation, food and water will be provided. Rooms are mostly shared by 2 or 4 students. Quality of food is average. We get Kerala food with a non-veg a day kind of menu. Registration is offline and online. The fee was 4100 a month for me. PG rented rooms are available around the region.
